Dear science communicators: We are starting to think about a possible undergrad-level module about Physics/Science communication. Do you know of any that works nicely we can look at? Advices? Obvious pitfalls?

@j_bertolotti I have no idea how well it works, and there's not much info available, but King's College London have a final year undergrad #scicomm module that looks interesting: https://www.kcl.ac.uk/study-legacy/modules/scientific-communications-15-credits-2.

Might be worth getting in touch with people there if you've got any contacts in the department?

Scientific Communications (15 credits)

@physicssteve My contacts at King's never heard about it 🤣
But I found one at Imperial that looks interesting to look at.

This is a good place to start (although focussed on the US) https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/pdf/10.1177/1075547020960138

@j_bertolotti And this is also very much worth reading. Especially the section criticising the information deficit model of science communication if you're not already familiar with that literature.

How should we organize science communication trainings to achieve competencies?

To advance science communication training, we use learning theory to build on an earlier effort to create a comprehensive list of topics for learning science communication. We identify threshold co...

@j_bertolotti In Leuven, we have a science communication course in the 3rd year of the Bachelor in Physics. They use course notes in Dutch, but you can see the aims etc. here: https://onderwijsaanbod.kuleuven.be/syllabi/v/e/G0D85AE.htm#activetab=inhoud_idp1523760&bl=all
