@nixCraft I've spoken a few times on "simple" versus "clever" and it boils down to making an "elegant" design. The first one in your quote is a great example where trying for a "simple" is actually going to make things more complex because of the difficulty in achieving it. And you also don't want a rube goldeberg machine at the other end of the scale. You want elegance: "gracefully concise and simple; admirably succinct.”
@nixCraft yes, I agree. Of course, as with most such succinct statements, it uses hyperbole to make a point. But in my experience, pushing to get a clean, transparent solution takes more up front effort and yields more predictability and stability than a random pile of accreted “feechyerz”
