I can’t remember where my first ALA Midwinter (now called LibLearnX) was. Maybe I haven’t been since Chicago in ‘17? I didn’t go to Philly in ‘20, the last pre-Covid edition. Anyway I can’t honestly say I miss the tension of awards anticipation, but I definitely miss the colleagues and librarians. PYR used to have a librarian dinner where every imprint got to present one book from the coming year. That was the first time I got to talk about @joymccullough & BLOOD WATER PAINT… #alayma #kidlit
Ok. It’s -10 F here this morning. Maybe I could handle the extra in-person tension of #alayma in New Orleans…
Still -8 here, but #alayma definitely kept the blood flowing. Special congrats to Ibi Zoboi and Cory McCarthy for their CSK and Stonewall honors. I couldn't be prouder. Both books are emblematic of everything I love about this work--fearless, curious, and beautifully executed.
