@siracusa and @hotdogsladies, as Carrie Coon connoisseurs, you might enjoy this little game I play in my head: Recall that Coon is in the MCU as Thanos’s minion Proxima Midnight, whose best line is her retort to T’Challa in Infinity War: “We [pause] have blood to spare.”
Now substitute Bertha Russell in her opera gown for Proxima Midnight, and imagine T’Challa is Mrs. Astor.
Totally works. Gilded Age is a variant timeline.
@marcoarment @siracusa @caseyliss I was a committed Apple leather case user going back at least three iPhones. A few days of comparison shopping 3rd party leather cases eventually earned me Insta ads for Alcantara cases. The ads worked & my 15 Pro Max is wearing one of these: https://almatechnology.net/collections/iphone-case?sort_by=best-selling&filter.v.price.gte=&filter.v.price.lte=&filter.v.option.device=iPhone+15+Pro+Max
This seems like the material Apple should have switched to rather than creating FineWoven. Maybe the sustainability claims aren’t what they seem, but the luxury pedigree is, and the feel is great.
The idea that Full Self Driving v12 is “in beta” and “not released to the public” is brazenly false. He’s driving it on a public road, not a test track. When a Tesla runs me over while I’m biking or walking, I will not be comforted by it being “in beta.”

Elon Musk posted a 45-minute live demonstration of v12 of Tesla’s Full Self-Driving feature. During the video, Musk has to take control of the vehicle after it nearly runs a red light. He also doxxes Mark Zuckerberg.
This week’s reminder of the loathsome state of big-time college sports is West Viginia basketball coach Bob Huggins, who casually dropped homophobic and transphobic slurs (with a side of anti-Catholic sentiment) on live radio in a way that ought to tell anyone he probably talks this way regularly. The consequences? His annual salary (the highest for any state employee in WVA) will be reduced by 25 percent. Somehow, he will have to survive on $3.2 million.
West Virginia coach Bob Huggins is expected to return next season after he agreed to a million-dollary pay cut, a three-game regular season suspension and sensitivity training in the wake of using an anti-gay slur in a radio interview.
★ "Lush, luminous, and celebratory, the words and images of this poem turned picture book offer a powerful meditation on intergenerational bonds and community care."—PW, starred review
A third starred review for Junauda Petrus and Kristen Uroda's visionary abolitionist picture book.
