The problem with the "Rust" prosecution is that it walks in the door unaware how film sets work.

To charge Alec Baldwin as the "shooter" is absurd because he was told the gun was cold (unloaded) before the rehearsal. But the 1st AD handed him the gun - which shouldn't have happened! And the 1st should have held a safety meeting before any weapons arrived on that set.

Man, did the producers - Alec Baldwin wasn't alone - fuck this up. Why aren't any of the other producers being held responsible?

In this bonus episode of our How NOT To Make A Movie Podcast, we discuss Rust - the epitome of how NEVER To Make A Movie.

S2E19: "Rust Makes Our Heads Explode"

It's bad enough people get hurt on film and TV sets. No one should ever die on one. What happened on Rust makes our heads explode.

The How NOT To Make A Movie Podcast
@Alan we also don’t know if his “Producer” title was simply a vanity title. he may have received in in leu of a higher payout. nobody is going to break the veil to reveal how these work to the general public, so without asking him we just don’t know. i have a feeling he was producer in title-card only though.

@deavial Well, there are ways to discern Alec Baldwin's involvement as an actual "producer". His production company produced this. Was he part of any budget conversations ever? Did he ever discuss casting or schedules or any production-related issues that one would never discuss with non-producing actors?

This was not a huge production. It was indie and everyone knew the players and their obligations to the money. Producers do stuff like that.

Just sayin'.

@Alan i wan’t aware it was his production company, i have tried to stay away from the topic as i still get triggered over midnight rider that i had friends working on. but not having all the details i am doing my best to not pass judgement, knowing that not everything is as it seems in this industry.
@deavial Midnight Rider really makes me angry. Randall Miller should stay in prison the rest of his life. Putting people at risk over a movie? You're a better person than me. I'm happy to pass judgment on these people.
