@CountDorkula @drewharwell @caseynewton I’ve long accepted Trump will never face any consequences for his evil and unlawful behavior.

The much worse feeling now is “permanent coup.” I’m generally an optimist on politics (b/c vast majority believes in doing the right things), but I’m losing that optimism. It could get very bad in the US after a Trump takeover in 2024.

@drewharwell @caseynewton For me, and others I follow on Mastodon, Trump coming back on Twitter was the last straw and we left. For Facebook it’s more difficult since they own WhatsApp and Instagram. I couldn’t care less about the fb platform but the other two I’d miss.

@drewharwell @caseynewton It doesn't confound me at all. More and more Facebook is growing in irrelevance so they need to grow traffic. You grow traffic by sowing anger, because that's how their algorithm works. How do you do that? Let the biggest trafficker of hate and anger re-join.

I can't even comprehend why people are imagining for a second that Facebook would act like some kind of government; it's a machine for making money.

Trump is coming back because if he comes back, they will make more money. That was the only decision point. It DID have to be balanced against the possibility that he would drive away more money than he attracted; but once they calculated he would bring in one more dollar than he drove away, that was it.
