I plan to switch from #TrueNASCore to #unraid . First I thought about using #TrueNASSCALE since it's Linux based and I can run docker with it,... But since I use my #Nas/server for private use I would like to spin down my HDDs from time to time, and that isnt straight forward with #zfs. Any thought?

@klaushipp I haven't used TrueNAS, but I built an #unraid server for home use in 2018 (for Plex, and backups of my PCs). Haven't had any problems yet.

The initial setup was easier than I expected, and everything still works like it did the first day. The disks spin down most of the time. I currently have 2 parity and 2 array disks, as I found the 2nd parity at a good price and didn't need the space at the time.

I think you won't regret it if you want Unraid's features!

@xerxesshouldnthavewon ah thank you for that feedback! Do you have cache in use right now? Or is the speed fast enough? Do you have any Webservices like Nextcloud running?
@klaushipp I don't have Nextcloud (although I'm thinking about it), but I have a Minecraft server, a gitlab instance for self use, and lately SearchXNG. And the *arr stack (Sonarr, Radarr, Transmission...).Also, a VPN to access those remotely (OpenVPN previously, Wireguard in the latest versions of Unraid).
@xerxesshouldnthavewon @klaushipp i think you’d like the cloudflared Docker and zero trust tier setup vs vpn. So nice!
@geoffrothman @klaushipp Hm, didn't know about that. It's pretty interesting. Thanks!
