“Why in God’s name would Americans give up the progress we made for the chaos they’re suggesting?”—President Biden talking about House Republicans refusing to raise the debt ceiling and threatening to cut Medicare and Social Security

Overcoming the Destructive Impulse

The work of creating a better world remains a struggle against leaders with hostile intentions

America, America

@StevenBeschloss Because around 700 billionaires have convinced themselves that destroying us is the path to order and stability.

It is not a coherent concept and is far more nightmarish than even Adolf’s fevered dreams (everyone is evil!). These people have spent a couple billion collectively and in coordination over 50 years. Today’s political and economic landscape is the result. They are indifferent to all the destruction of climate change and worse, may even be seen as a Good.

@GhostOnTheHalfShell @StevenBeschloss pretty sure the whole Carbon Tax idea was to establish a global "authority" all nations will pay.
@StevenBeschloss —some ppl just want to watch it burn, imo
@StevenBeschloss Love how Biden calls it like he sees it in plain English and terms that anyone can comprehend.
@StevenBeschloss My generation already knows we're not going to see social security anyway.
@StevenBeschloss I'm done with representative democracy. Ready to burn it all and let a better system rise
@SocialistStan @StevenBeschloss good luck. Give up and stronger forms of oppression will come.

@StevenBeschloss

Needed to be said. Exactly what is this Libertarian Utopia/Hellscape they are working toward actually going to look like?

The super-rich ‘preppers’ planning to save themselves from the apocalypse

Tech billionaires are buying up luxurious bunkers to survive a societal collapse they helped create, but like everything they do, it has unintended consequences

@StevenBeschloss Not to worry. I just watched Kevin McCarthy promise that he would not allow the US to default. Of course that was while he was also attemting a weasel-word filibuster about “eliminating waste” to avoid having to answer anything directly. Somehow “eliminating waste” always seems to come down to restricting benefits while they babble about welfare queens.
