Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.
I should add that I love NA beers so I probably have to try this even though I'm not a Guinness drinker normally
@joshuatopolsky I love Guinness but as time eats at my mortality I find myself liking bourbon and whiskey more. Beer and Guinness gives me all the bloat. Interest however is peaked for the NA Guiness.
@joshuatopolsky I hope it has the weird little ping pong ball inside the can that makes it extra fizzy

@joshuatopolsky It’s very good, as NA beers go! Admittedly it’s a lean field (also, given my last endorsement, I am not sponsored by Diageo)

Mind you, I’m currently wrestling with a health condition that may have been partly precipitated by NA beer consumption, so YMMV, as they say.

@joshuatopolsky a small market near me recently started getting some of Mikkeller’s “Near Beer” line and holy cow are they good. Untitled Art also makes some fine NAs (running theory that brewers who make alcoholic beer in addition to NA oftentimes make the best-tasting ones)

@joshuatopolsky if you are a Guinness drinker (which I most certainly am) it’s really the only NA substitute. I love the products of Athletic Brewing but they don’t do nitro
@joshuatopolsky it's actually quite good. My wife and I stopped drinking alcohol about 5 years ago but still enjoy the occasional NA wine or beer. It's been fun to find some good ones! I'll be sure to post some pics here in my feed! THX-Des
@joshuatopolsky i'm going to guess this will beat regular NA beers even!
@vinayaravind @joshuatopolsky there are a bunch of NA stouts that are nicer than this but it’s not bad
@skinnylatte @joshuatopolsky ah i wish you'd get a few more of them here. There's so many more non drinkers among friends these days.

@vinayaravind @joshuatopolsky my decision to stop drinking was well timed: there has been a huge surge in better NA drinks. I’d give it a few more years, it’s not even widely available outside the big cities here right now

An Ex-Drinker’s Search for a Sober Buzz

John Seabrook writes about the booming market for non-alcoholic drinks. Does it offer a safe way to return to the bar?

The New Yorker
@joshuatopolsky Thatcher's Zero Cider is fantastic. The zero alcohol sections in supermarkets I use are growing, so there must be consumer demand.
@joshuatopolsky Having options like this rules if you're trying to cut back drinking! Even a couple of years ago the selection was pretty terrible if you wanted something to scratch the itch socially while staying sober.
@retnuh730 no I agree! I have been drinking a ton of Athletic IPAs lately
@joshuatopolsky @retnuh730 ah awesome I see you’re already familiar.
@joshuatopolsky I was the same view until Drs warned my liver-shot-brother-in-law ‘another drink will kill you’. He likes this, it stays in his fridge.
@joshuatopolsky I love non-alcoholic Guinness! Surprising perhaps, but it is really good.
@tml I'm gonna have to try it. Not actually a Guinness drinker usually but been really liking some of the NA beers out there.
@tml @joshuatopolsky That’s helpful to know that it’s good. I stopped drinking 20 years ago, and one of the things I miss is Guinness. I’m going to have to find this now. Since I’m not in liquor stores ever, I had no clue this existed!
@tml @joshuatopolsky does it still have the full load of carbs? Very time I have just one Guinness feels like a meal. I feel very efficient.
@ferluc @joshuatopolsky According to https://www.guinness.com/en/beers/guinness-zero , 3.8 g / 100 ml. Which is a bit more than what they say ordinary draught Guinness has.
@joshuatopolsky it’s actually surprisingly good.
@joshuatopolsky To be fair, Guinness is pretty close to nonalcoholic already 😀
@joshuatopolsky On the contrary: there is a market for this, and demand for it, so kudos to Guiness for bringing it out. To scoff at it is like scoffing at Ford for bringing out an EV version of their bestselling gas-guzzler F-150 truck: a threat to manliness everywhere omg! lol 😱
@joshuatopolsky for what it’s worth it’s one of the better 0% beers. Some places in Ireland have it on tap.
@joshuatopolsky love this… might even prefer it to regular
@joshuatopolsky athletic brewing is the only decent na anyway
