One of the most significant costs to Biden of the documents case is the opportunity cost: Democrats will now have a hard time using Trump's mishandling of classified papers against him, even though the particulars of the two cases are markedly different.

Biden’s Handling of Secret Documents Complicates the Case Against Trump

The cases are markedly different in their particulars. But they are similar enough that as a practical matter, Democrats will have a hard time using the issue against former President Donald J. Trump.

If the particulars are markedly different, when why will they have a hard time? What is the causal force creating political difficulties on the basis of false equivalencies? 🪞

@drvolts

The particulars are different, but the heart of the problem remains the same: misplaced documents.

The more the differences are discussed, the more the cases appear similar.

@phil_mckraken @drvolts except they really aren't

@kaffiene @drvolts

Biden's defenders insist on comparing them for a reason.

@phil_mckraken @drvolts Only because of the media and RW politicians and pundits saying so. Amplification of both sideserism.

@nlewis1111 @drvolts

Both are about misplaced secret documents, no?

I'm not worried. Kamala Harris will be a great President.

@drvolts NYT 🤷🏻‍♀️ It’s ridiculous.

@drvolts This isn't hard. Trump obstructed the return of the stuff that he took. Biden and Pence self reported and are cooperating.

There's nothing more complicated than that.

@drvolts I think that in the inattentive mind the cases sound like mishandling docs and Biden is getting a pass by the “elites” who whomp on Trump because he sees their multilateral secretive deep state
@rveep @drvolts The inattentive mind fed 40 years of RW BS and mainstream bothsideserism.
@drvolts Because it isn't a sexy story anymore now that eeryone's got classified documents.
@drvolts why is it “savvy” “analysis” for a smart person like Peter Baker to pretend to be dumb? The main complication is people like him pretending two different things are the same thing.
@drvolts IMO, the only thing Garland can do at this point is to add Pence to the guy assigned to the Biden case. I do suspect this problem to be limited to people with official residences. POTUS, Veep, possibly ambassadors.
