@glennf don’t think I ever clicked a link that fast!
@glennf it looks pretty nice, but I wonder if the market for Mastodon is willing to pay a subscription fee to use it.

@brianhogg @glennf I can't say I mind. I'm supporting development. I'm voluntarily donating to Ice Cubes as well, and I'll decide later which I prefer. Both options are so much more polished than some of the options I've tried, though don't read that as a criticism of their hard work.

I care less about cost and more about open platforms.

@segv11 @glennf totally valid. I would prefer to donate to the person running the mastodon instance I’m on as a first step, but they haven’t made that possible.

(I’m checking out both ice cubes and ivory, so I might change my tune on the latter if I like it enough)

@brianhogg They have a huge installed base of Twitter users and had thousands clamoring to get into an alpha test. They don't need a million subscribers and I think it's likely they can get 10,000s
@glennf Fair enough. I hope they succeed!
@glennf Very impressed so far! Ivory greatly improves the Mastodon experience.
@glennf congratulations. Let’s give it a whirl.
@glennf
I installed it on my Pixel but there are too many missing features for me to use it right now. I will check back in a couple of weeks.
@ksoltys it’s not available for Android

@glennf Well then I have been burned by a fake. I've uninstalled it.

Update: Per a down thread post from Tapbot it's not a fake but an old project from someone else using the same name.

@ksoltys that’s how you know you’ve made it! When the imposters come out of the woodwork. @ivory
@karl
I am hoping there was no malicious code buried in it.
@ivory
@ksoltys @ivory is do some heavy duty checking to be sure. Usually those bad actors don’t put out crapola like that without some payback or purpose.
@ksoltys @karl You'll be fine. That's actually a very old project by a developer who stopped working on it. We talked to him before picking our app name. 🙂
@ivory @ksoltys great - thanks for the update. Whew!

@ivory @karl @glennf OK, thank you for letting me know. I was worried I might have pickef up something bad.

Do you haven't any plans for an Android version?

@ksoltys if you haven’t already also make sure to de-authorize the app (if you logged in): In the web interface, go to preferences > account > authorized apps > revoke access for the fake!

@ksoltys @glennf not technically a fake, it existed first. The Tapbots guys actually checked with the dev if they could use the name and he said it was an abandoned project so sure.

Ivory (@[email protected])

@[email protected] @[email protected] @[email protected] no ivory on android is actually an old project that was abandoned. We talked to the developer about it before choosing our name. 🙂 The developer would have taken it off the store, but he said he didn’t have the login credentials to manage it.

@tonofpudding @glennf Yes, I found that out after my original post. If I can find it, I'll go back and edit it with an update.
