"Getting #COVID19 is inevitable" is a dumb argument. If you drive an average amount, it's inevitable you'll have an accident. (In fact, data tells us you'll have 2-4 in your lifetime.) Does that mean we drive recklessly and invite accidents? No, we take precautions!

By now, we all should know:
- Reinfections occur
- Reinfections raise health risks
- Immunity fades
- COVID can damage your brain, heart & immune system

We should be striving to reduce how often we all get (and spread) COVID!

@augieray I agree with you in general - with appropiate protection we can and should reduce the number. Also, because it is everywhere avoiding is hard. Still, for immun supressed people it can be deadly - this means everyone should limit its spread.

@gabor_legrady @augieray Right! You might get infected & may possibly survive — however, there may be vulnerable people around you that you could infect, who will not survive.

Thus it's better to place your bet on protection, for the sake of the ones around you & for the sake of yourself.
And even if you'll survive, you might be hit hard with Long COVID, possibly becoming unable to work.
It's worth to think about it & act responsibly!

🚨👉"Bach’s work shows that for Americans 18-65 years old, or “working age,” 16 million currently have long COVID, and 2 to 4 million can’t work at all, with a trail of at least $170 billion in lost wages."👈

@augieray You wear a seat belt, car has airbags. Don’t drive while intoxicated. Buy tires appropriate to the winter weather.
Of course we take precautions: why not do the same with COVID? Vaccinate, mask when appropriate. Avoid dense, loud indoor crowds.
@augieray I think the more sensible statement is that "exposure to covid is inevitable," and to try to minimize the number of exposures, and the number of exposures that lead to infections. Some research suggests that with lower exposure levels, illness may be less severe - so using methods we already know to be useful, like masking, ventilation, etc, and continuing to improve them, fewer infections might also be less symptomatic and cause fewer long covid cases. (Pulls hair out)
@secretsloth
And as a bonus, you may be less likely to get the flu or RSV or whatever else is going around.

@augieray

maybe one day we'll learn why the GOP is hell bent on killing Americans, especially their base. The only reason that makes sense to me is; the GOP party is no longer American and should be classified as hostile to American lives and democracy.

@onion_amber @augieray it deepens the recession that was predicted anyway and allows monopolies to accelerate

Add a hail mary with automation for all the new babies that won't be born to grow up into new workers due to covid-affected fertility

@augieray People can become infected multiple times. With every infection, the risk of impairment becomes higher. #LongCovid
@augieray hey now stop with all the logic and intelligent talk, will ya!

@augieray

100% agree.
As someone that always been interested in the body & immune system. Diseases should never be taken lightly. Your body literally goes into a battle mode, eats up extra energy, and on top, if something new it has never seen, the immune system's general first response causes collateral damage to other cells. Plus, only the first layer is awake; vaccines are use to wake up the second layer (which if ya lucky only takes a week). Note, this is very, very simplifying it.

@augieray Death is inevitable too, but we still try to hold it off as long as possible.
@augieray
People that think they have immunity after infection is a lack of education. Listen to Fox and you'll die.

@augieray

I reduce my risk of getting into car accident by only undertaking necessary driving. If the kids need to go somewhere, I drive them. For myself, I keep things local and use my feet.

@augieray Also: The longer it is before you get COVID-19, the better the treatments that will be available when you get it. There is no benefit to getting it sooner, particularly not when we don't even understand long COVID-19 properly yet.
@augieray Never had it, don't want it. Keeping some distance and basic precautions...
