I belatedly discovered #SteamLink can stream *from* a #SteamDeck, not just *to* it.

Discussions I'd seen generally assume you got a SteamDeck after you already had a gaming PC.

But now I can play games on my ultra-low-end Mac without straining my aging eyes! Yay!

@naga I'm confused. You can stream from a steam link to a steam deck?

@FreiGuy86 Afaik, SteamLink is a service similar to GameStream. You basically stream your game from one device to the other. For me, that would be streaming a game from my PC to my Android TV Box (Shield), so that I can harness the power of my PC but play it with controllers connected to the Shield and on my TV.

So in @naga's example, they can use the hardware power of their Steam Deck but play a game with keyboard and mouse via their old Mac. :)

@Sven @naga oohhhhhh that makes sense now. I thought they were referring to the steam link device lol
@FreiGuy86 @Sven Right. Confusingly, they seem to have previously had a device called SteamLink that's been discontinued, and then reused the name for the stream software.
@naga @FreiGuy86 @Sven I'm so glad @FreiGuy86 asked this question as I was also really confused!
@naga @Sven makes sense now. I have a steam link so that's why I was confused lol. Got it for a dollar. Works pretty well actually. Not even any noticeable lag.
@naga Yeah, I'm streaming from my Steam Deck to my Steam Link (the hardware) in lieu of having an actual dock to connect to TV. It's suprisingly robust, most of the time at least
