This is the year that the Fediverse overtakes the Metaverse.

That's right.

According to GlobalData, 2023 is going to be a "Metaverse winter" and a "Fediverse spring".

‘Fediverse' predicted to overtake metaverse in 2023

Despite being a hot topic in tech, the metaverse has not lived up to its hype, from a return-on-investment perspective.

It's stunning how VCs and Big Social simply didn't see the Fediverse coming.

They put so much money into VR and crypto -- all pumping this tech up as the "next big thing".

Little did they know that web standards, open protocols, and decentralization would make a breakthrough -- yet again.

@atomicpoet Public interests don't always comply with corporate interests focused on centralization of influence for corporate profit.
The rise of the #Fediverse as an expression of people's desire to be free from centrally, corruptly & anti-democratically controlled "freedom" of expression is the latest proof.

"Public interests don't always comply with corporate interests …"

Don't always? Do they ever?

@GertyBz @atomicpoet During employment time of people with corps they necessarily do - at least to some extent, right?😉
@ArenaCops @atomicpoet
No, e.g. customer support call centres, understaffed, underpaid, employ people outside the country of the customer base, reduce staffing even more and replace with website chat bots and talking phone bots, how is any of this aligned with the interests of customers or staff?!

And by the way have you even heard about the mass layoffs recently? No, you're either a troll or a corporate shill, nobody's interests are served by corporations except their execs. :(
