If you're wanting to see trending posts, hashtags and news items on Mastodon, try browsing the Explore tab.

➑️ Access it on your server's website by logging in and clicking # Explore

➑️ Access it on the official apps by clicking the magnifying glass πŸ” and leaving the search box empty

The trending posts are based on number of recent boosts, which posts that lots of people have shared on here in in the last few hours.

The empty search field works in my browser on my PC too. πŸ™‚

@feditips do you happen to know how the hashtag counts that appear in the auto fill section below the text box when typing in a hashtag (letting you see what might be the most effective tag to use) are calculated? Are they based on usage specific to the instance, instance plus federated accounts it’s aware of, or something else entirely?
@feditips
The second option does not work in the Android app.
@feditips How do I get trending posts working on my own very small local mastodon server? I see a message that there are no posts trending..
@feditips
Do you or anyone happen to know any Andoid apps other than Mastodon that give access to the trends on the instance where I have my account? Or even to that of any instance that provides it?

@[email protected] Hey there, sorry I missed it first time! Fedilab provides trending posts and hashtags. Tusky provides trending hashtags, though it doesn't yet provide trending posts. Hope this answers it? By the way, I did a review of Fedilab at https://fedi.tips/fedilab-for-android/ and a review of Tusky at https://fedi.tips/tusky-for-android/
