Jan 20, 1922: On this date future SOE agent Yvonne Baseden was born in Paris. A wireless operator for the SCHOLAR network, she was captured by the Gestapo and sent to the Ravensbrück concentration camp. She survived the war, dying October 28, 2017 at the age of 95.
What was the SCHOLAR network?
The networks (or circuits) used by the British Special Operations Executive were underground spy/ sabotage operations against the Nazis in WW2.
The networks were given codenames- which traditionally are written in all caps.
SCHOLAR was one of many of these networks.
