A very important part of IconFactory's Twitterrific retirement announcement
This toot has *blown up* by Mastodon standards and I misspelled Twitterrific 😞
I forgot I could edit!
@bensaufley oh good, I was gonna remind you but didn't wanna nerdsplain masto to you
@nothe I had actually been on my phone when I tooted it, and I remembered *then* but Ivory doesn't yet support editing. But I'm back on my laptop, and Elk does!
@bensaufley yeah i leave my ivory typo unless they're REALLY egregious, because, meh. I'm not perfect, and that's okay :P
This toot officially has far more boosts and/or likes than I have followers. More viral than anything I ever posted on Twitter. And it's not anything I contributed—it's just emphasizing what the makers of Twitterrific said
@bensaufley honestly? that may have been me, at least in part... I'm pretty connected w/ the Seattle mac/iOS dev community :D
@nothe I think it seems likely. The stream started coming in after you boosted it, hahah
@bensaufley you're welcome, I hope you enjoyed the appreciation of the mac dev community, they're good folks <3

@bensaufley The two saddest parts are that:

1. Twitter / Elon Musk had to do this to the developers.

2. Most users will still do demand refunds. And there's not much Icon Factory could do in that case...

It's sad, but more of a reason for IconFactory to support Mastodon.

@cameronbosch I know what you mean but I'd also point out they didn't "have to" at all. They could've even made this (bad) decision in a way that allowed sunsetting and didn't just fuck everyone over
@bensaufley I agree. It's just another nail in the coffin by an out of touch man.
@bensaufley Thanks for helping us spread the word. Craig and I have lost sleep over this in recent nights. I truly hope people consider it. Thx again.
@gedeonm it's absolute bullshit and I'm so sorry it's happening to you and so many other devs who poured their hearts into making Twitter better. So much good work undone so fast and with such malice.
@bensaufley aw man…Twitterrific was one of the first clients I used back when I first joined  back in 2007. Ave atque vale…
@bensaufley Is it true that "API 2.0" apps were actually paying money to Twitter for the right to connect to the API? It's probably not the most important thing to be thinking about here but I really wonder if Twitter accidentally entered into an implied contract with Twitterific/Tapbots/et al and are liable to those companies for putting them in a situation where they'll have people cancelling subscriptions at the app devs' expense due to them violating a "rule" introduced five days later
@mcc @bensaufley I *believe* the money for tokens thing was planned or rumored but never came into fruition
@bensaufley Could they file against the responsible party in Small Claims Court in San Francisco?

@bensaufley so hold up. They're asking people to not ask for refunds for a product that doesn't work anymore? And it's a subscription so how long exactly are they supposed to let it run without it working?

Maybe they should do what people in America do when they get sick: start a GoFundMe 😠

@mav subscriptions will cancel automatically. They're asking not to ask for refunds for the latest period. This was sprung on them as much as it was sprung on the users.
@bensaufley Ahhhhhhh, ok, gotcha. That's much more reasonable.
@bensaufley Christ it's hard to read that. I loved Twitterific.
@bensaufley That's a no brainer if people are smart; it's not the application itself that's the problem, it's the API being pulled out from under that. But sadly, I'm sure many don't know that, or simply don't care.
