If you don't think that the virulent and open racism that’s always been prevalent in this country is present and continuing today, then you are either not paying attention or are unwilling spend any time thinking critically about things that happen all around you.

Think if you want that it’s limited to Florida and that DeSantis has no national appeal, but it’s not just going on in Florida. It’s part of the Republican plan.

Ron DeSantis is pushing education in Florida much further right-

Ron DeSantis is pushing education in Florida much further right

Under the guise of protecting parents or academic freedom, DeSantis is reshaping education in his state.

The Washington Post

@TonyStark
He may as well be called by another name we all can identify easily: Adolph Hitler

yeah, I said it! carry on.

@BillMcGuire No argument here, man. White supremacists all around.

Back to work.

@TonyStark

I know I was shouting to the choir, but anyone interested in the downward decline of this issue should be raising their voice and fist in defiance. We cannot stay silent. I was raised as a white guy by my parents to be color blind. I have my friends backs who are black. They know it cuz I've declared it. Integration happened at my h.s. in 1965. It was not a slap in my face at all. As an athlete, we became team mates. I'm all in! carry on.

Santos should be taken down a notch or 10.

@BillMcGuire @TonyStark, I knkw, right? Where the fuck is everyone?
@Agora @TonyStark
whom do you mean by "everyone"?
@BillMcGuire @TonyStark, everyone who is angry with this. We should be agitating. I fear we aren't doing anything to stop him, and now he is escalating.
We have an opportunity to bring a fascist down.

@Agora @TonyStark

it will have to come from within FL & I'm not sure, since I live in TX, that Floridians are up to that kind of challenge. I am sort of relying on what I've read that DeSantis is not very well thought of outside of Florida. Perhaps he isn't and this may end him....some things he insists on trying aren't legal federally, so he may find himself jeopardizing himself with some of his junk. I certainly hope he is digging his own grave politically. carry on

@Agora @TonyStark

if it is any consequence, one of the FL Congressmen fell 25 feet off his ladder while trying to trim tree limbs around his FL house this last weekend. He'll be okay, and says maybe in future he'll hire an immigrant on his way to D.C. the job instead. (satire in that last part) carry on.

@BillMcGuire @TonyStark 😂
I don't know why bad things don't happen to bad people! I was hoping that he won’t come back to Congress.
@TonyStark
No republican wants ANY citizen to be "woke"! You can't control them if they are!!
@TonyStark he’s the anti-Christ. Prove me wrong.
@TonyStark
The main thrust of Desantis' political theater is primary grade education. He's trying and succeeding to convincing the parents of white grade school children that their kids are be "groomed' by homosexuals or being made to feel guilty about how people of color are being treated. He has treated young kids as lab rats in testing how contagious Covid is and has said there are allowable "loses" in keeping schools open at the height of the pandemic. And yet Floridians love him
@SkipFleming Well, the Republican ones do. We have at least one FL Democrat on the instance and I know a few more. They definitely do not love him.

@TonyStark or? You're one of them.

One or the other. Ain't no fence. They own the fence. Be clear

brother

@TonyStark Education in Florida now embraces right-wing, white superiority ideals, and disallows diversity, equity and inclusion. No acknowledgement of social injustices is allowed. THIS IS CRUEL AND UNAMERICAN!

@DidiQ It’s unAmerican in my book but very American in theirs.

Virginia’s governor is on this same path, many more. We have so much work.

@TonyStark
The MO Congress is discussing banning the instruction of critical race theory. I don’t know what I can do about it. This is a red state. But I’ll be watching for opportunities.
@TonyStark I’ve lived in the Ole South most of my life. It’s still there. Some idiots are inured with the Lost Cause. It’s sickening. Then the pushback by criminal blacks casts upon the law abiding black citizens.

@TonyStark

Down this road leads apartheid education and white nationalism, not education.

@TonyStark I disagree….Ron DeSantis is removing/killing education and robbing the students of their rightful access to understanding the world
@TonyStark Did you use "critical" and "race" in the same sentence!? /s
@TonyStark This is how the U.S. government caused the Indigenous and how WWII started. Both governments passed laws to remove our ways, education, books, the list goes one and then they slaughtered us. It always starts small like book burning or stealing artifacts to it goes into Genocide murder
@TonyStark People who keep dismissing Ron DeSantis as not much to worry about are making a big mistake.
@Sunspot @TonyStark still waters run deep.
He is playing it close to the vest, just like he did when running for governor 1st time
@Sunspot @TonyStark
I agree. #desantis is a dangerous fascist. Let's not forget how many in 2015 thought that Donald Trump running for president was a laughing matter. He was elected, he did enormous damage and he nearly overthrew our #democracy. But he delivered for his donors: a budget-busting tax cut for billionaires and a #christofascist #scotus for religious fanatics. #desantis promises more of the same. He is a threat to be taken seriously.
@Annaeus @Sunspot @TonyStark
Trump "elected" sounds official. Cheaters, liars who opt for dark money and darker help will have to do tricks in Foreign Policy which, happened a lot.
@Annaeus @Sunspot @TonyStark It was easy to dismiss Trump as just a clown, a carnival barker. DeSantis poses a more immediate and dire threat, especially in light of Trump and the exposure of 40% of the country being fashy-adjacent/tolerant/curious.

@Sunspot @ragle @Annaeus Someone usually rolls up and tells people not to worry about DeSantis, something like what was said above, that he lacks “national appeal.” I’ve seen that in the press, too.

As we’ve seen and see on the GOP radar, they don’t need or want a candidate with national appeal. The system they support doesn’t require it.

Gerrymandering, voter suppression, voter replacement, and the electoral college see to that.

@TonyStark @Sunspot @Annaeus Maybe the one silver lining to the Trump years was proving that "Don't Be a Sucker" was prescient and remains timely.

@Annaeus @ragle @Sunspot Holy sh*t. That’s a great find.
@TonyStark @Annaeus @Sunspot Listening to the dude's speech on the town square was pretty eerily dead-on to the current GOP platform across state and Federal.
@ragle @TonyStark @Sunspot @Annaeus the right wingers are all suckers will never change
@Waterloo @ragle @TonyStark @Sunspot
That's true. But what we need is for everyone who is NOT a right winger to take the threat of #fascism seriously and ALWAYS show up to #vote. The "Red wave" pundits predicted didn't happen because freedom-loving voters, especially women and POC, were outraged by the #gop's attacks on women's rights and civil rights and VOTED, defying suppression efforts. We need to stay outraged. Right wingers are an angry minority. Time for the angry majority to push back.

@Annaeus @Sunspot @ragle @TonyStark

@desertwillow1 @Annaeus @Sunspot @TonyStark Good eye, I'll update my bookmarks. Feels weird to be lauding a government-sponsored propaganda film, but such is the bizarro world we are in. Good info is good info and Nazis are Nazis, regardless of the decade or century.
@TonyStark @Sunspot @ragle @Annaeus My greatest fear now is the gutting of public education. First they came after the teachers, now the curriculum, and finally are funneling public money to rich private schools and for-profit schools.
@makkhorn @TonyStark @Sunspot @Annaeus "School choice" has been their euphemism/dog whistle since desegregation, with the same motives at play now as then.
@TonyStark @Sunspot @ragle @Annaeus And if you’re in a safe, blue state, you’d better go find a purple district to help swing blue because we’re not safe in our blue states. Remember Republicans aren’t happy until they force their will on everyone else. It’s who they all are.
@Annaeus @Sunspot @TonyStark
Desantis is scarier, because he's more disciplines and he's a true believer.
@Sunspot @TonyStark I live in FL and you are 💯 % correct!
@Sunspot @TonyStark F*ck those people who say that🤬🤬🤬🤬
@Sunspot @TonyStark
Not dismissing Santos... but #Tesla's chief NUTTER Elon Musk is inflicting more damage to democracy and institutions currently

@Sunspot @TonyStark

You are so right about that, Roberto.

@Sunspot @TonyStark a thousand fucking times this jesus christ

@Sunspot @TonyStark, we should consider crowd-sourcing some funds and sue him for what he is doing to African Americans.

White Republicans in the villages committed voter fraud, but he only raided black voters and with SWAT TEAMS!!

@TonyStark it’s a literal fascist dystopia in Florida and their Hitler wants to run for president. We need to mobilize against this freak.
@TonyStark DeSantis is destroying the educational system in Florida. It wasn't the best before. He and his R associates want to do this nationally. They must be stopped!
@richardb @TonyStark
It is part of the GOP's dismantling of democracy to secure political and economic dominance of white supremacist Americans. Creeping fascism all over the US where Republicans are in power, including SCOTUS! Probably, this will not end peacefully because of the fascists behavior and because the population is armed to the teeth. The next civil war could take place at any street corner, any county and any state. The Union could be at risk. Not good!

@TonyStark I'm concerned about DeSantis, but think he's overplaying. However, he should still be taken seriously - and we should worry about any "not Desantis."

Right now the Republicans could throw up someone less arrogant and irritating than DeSantis with 80% of the same policies as they'd fly under radar very easily.

@StevenSavage I’ve said this before and I don’t see Republicans learning any lessons but anyone who’s going to get the 2024 nomination or really any serious position with this party now is going to be someone with the same fascist mindset. They have no chance of nominating a decent person. There’s not one to find. So, agreed.

@TonyStark @StevenSavage

Strong agree, Tony.⚡

A caucus this dysfunctional can only turn out dysfunctional candidates.

And fascist tendencies within the Republican Party tend to be only ripening at the moment.

Anyone trying to pull them back from the edge within their own party - gets threatened with a primary challenge, and ousted.

@KentNelson @TonyStark @StevenSavage

Agreed and welcome Doc.

As we're all aware the driver for this is the great fear of "other". They've just drilled so far down into the recursion that at this stage anyone not looking directly into the mirror and smiling is being questioned.

The painful fact remains that these are not people who gained position by cunning, skill, or even hard work. At least not the majority of them.

These are the leftovers, the people who couldn't dominate in the private sector. Or they are people who are assigned their roles and responsibilities at birth due to birth order.

It wouldn't shock me to learn half of them literally have no idea beyond who they report to. They don't need that information, and they're not the types of people who seek to become people who do. Similar to "Jerry Smith" from Rick & Morty, they just keep groveling and it keeps working.

@mentallyalex @TonyStark @StevenSavage

All signs indicate that you are correct here, Alex. Just take a look at who we now have in positions of power within one of our most sacred and revered institutions - The House of Representatives - Our House of Representatives.

And thanks for the welcome. Great to finally arrive here.

There's a lot of good folks doing some good work around here.⚡
