How to privatize public healthcare:

Step 1: Underfund the public system.
Step 2: Make people frustrated with the public system.
Step 3: Introduce private for-profit options so people have no other choice.

This is what’s happening right now in Ontario.

It must be stopped.

@naheedd oh, look! There goes Madrid's subway service
@naheedd Don’t forget selling public assets for peanuts

@naheedd

It's the approach that they're trying to use in the UK on the #NHS

@naheedd right there with you in Australia too.

@naheedd

The only thing that seems to stop this despicable government from doing despicable things is their fear of a #GeneralStrike. I hope the unions are paying attention to the government’s #healthcare #privatization plans, and will work together to plan a general strike in #Ontario #FixPublicHealthcare

@naheedd but how do we stop this?! I’m willing to do just about anything.
@naheedd
Also what's happening in the UK.
@shahaan
@naheedd Then your friends will begin offering private healthcare cheap and when the public system is dismantled prices go up as there's no other option and your friends from the private health companies award you a nice seat at the Board of Directors.
@naheedd It's also happening here in the UK. Within the last year I've been in a few situations which have been something like "well you can wait [infeasibly long time] or if you have the money you can go private".
@naheedd Ditto UK and elsewhere.
@naheedd and indeed sounds very familiar... despite when being asked (in a question framed exactly in this way) last night on our Channel Four News, the minister concerned denied it
@ChrisMayLA6 @naheedd yes it's standard privatising practice -- but more than protesting about underfunding is needed. Eg what if healthcare itself (like mines in ancient Athens) was legislated to be public property, only to be leased to private providers if their project enchances the welfare state itself, rather than erode it. I'm sure leftie economists have better ideas!
@mmoutou @naheedd Yes, the European model, of some private providers (all payed for by the state) has some adherents over here
@ChrisMayLA6 @naheedd I didn't mean private providers payed/subcontracted by the state (or did you mean something else??), but almost the opposite. A modern, better version of ancient Athenian 'Kainotomia', which came to mean industrial innovation.

@naheedd

UK Tory #FakeAusterity programme over the last 12 years

1. Defund
2. Demoralise
3. Privatise

@naheedd
Your leaders must be taking lessons from ours, down here south of the border. Defund public services, then complain about low quality public services, then outsource said service to your buddies, for hundreds of millions of dollars a year. It's classic American politics!

@naheedd an older family member once told me this same process, but it was in discussion about unionization vs making individual contracts with an employer. In their case the defunding of unions by the bourgeoisie would be forcing people to go on strike, sabotaging negotiations, starving the unions out into submission (which by the way is why hunger strikes don't make sense to me).

Basically part of breaking unions is paying the first defectors more & then collapsing that increase once the unions collapse. This then applies to social wages gained through labor organizing etc, such as public healthcare systems too.

@naheedd It’s the same formula for public education in the US.

@naheedd How to privatize public education:

Step 1: Underfund the public system.
Step 2: Make people frustrated with the public system.
Step 3: Introduce private for-profit options so people have no other choice.

This is what’s happening right now in Washington, DC.

It must be stopped.

@naheedd @pyoor

Step 4: Only profits matter, if it’s cheaper to settle than to save someone, it’s a win…

@naheedd So they're trying to convert a working system into a piece of shit - not working - overly expensive - unaffordable - die due to preventable disease and illness just like underdeveloped countries and the USA.

Canadians you know better. Don't let sociopathic greed ruin a beautiful country. This would take you from the top five best countries in the whole fucking world. The beginning of the ruination of Canada. Just don't.

@naheedd
It's what's happening in the UK (what's left of it) too.
@naheedd sounds like time for a riot, if there's anything humans must hold dear it's a public health system.
@naheedd This sounds like the Alberta plan.
