I do not like that this needs to exist, but I'mma boost it until it's not. Do likewise, as you will.
@stonebear wish I could boost this 100x considering that the haters are going after them right now.
@MarchViolet @stonebear one of the prohiminant British transphobe already threw a hissy fit against that because parents should own their children or something
@sieri @stonebear big shocker. Good thing libraries exist, though I suppose that the terfs and Tories will try and ban those too.
@MarchViolet @stonebear again? Fuckers. They just have nothing better to do with their shitty lives do they?
@MarchViolet @stonebear I hate that this is even needed in this day and age. But I am glad that they have implemented the feature.
@stonebear Could you explain more about what this is?

@stonebear I remember seeing how some have complained about this enabling "grooming" and basically how it's proof LGBT is bad and want to harm the children 🙄 I wonder if they ever had a thought about why kids want to hide such shit from their parents.

Helicopter parenting must go extinct ASAP and people need to learn that children aren't fucking property.

@souwei The whole "grooming" thing is made-up fascist shit to enable them to scapegoat us queerdos on the way to implementing totalitarianism. Anybody boosting that shit is a fucking fash or their unwitting accomplice, period paragraph.

It's not helicopter parenting that's bad so much as we've raised a generation unable to think critically nor think they have to care about people who are different than they are. The kids know better, and they're starting to take over, but...

@stonebear As someone who's been raised by helicopters, this shit must go, period. There's no excuse for such treatment of your kid, and if one can't build a meaningful relationship based on trust, they shouldn't be parents at all.

@stonebear some technical observations:

it clears the tab history, that's available under the backward arrow (←), but other history features in your browser may still expose that you've visited trevorchat.org

@stonebear for added safety, consider using a private browsing / incognito tab
@stonebear I am genuinely repulsed and sickened by how many charities and help-orgs are now being blamed for literally causing the exact problems that created a necessity for their services/actions in the first place. It's literally like pointing at a food bank/soup kitchen and saying, "Those assholes are causing hunger and malnutrition". The more I actually think about it the more sickening & rage-inducing it becomes - I'm worried familiarity means I'm becoming too desensitized to evil.🙅
@stonebear I saw this so many times and never noticed the "Bi-ology" book! What a nice detail 😊
@stonebear unfortunately it's a U.S only thing
@stonebear I wish I could pin this directly onto my profile
@stonebear Oh, so that's why it has the 3x esc emergency exit function. Awesome!
@ignis @stonebear Reminds me of old games having a "Boss key"

@stonebear

I see a great need for infosec tutorials for LGBT kids, tbh.

@stonebear boosted, and thanks for posting. Its SO important.
@stonebear wow. Great that they integrated that feature! They really thought of everything.

@stonebear and I'm boosting. This is even something I promote in my linktree.... Hell I wish I'd known I was #bi or whatever at their supposed ages. Fun times living in the south and that not clicking bc of the lack of education....and discovering it at almost 30 then having oh shit moments realizing things....

This is just so annoying we fail people so hard on giving resources and support thanks to bigots...

@stonebear whats the Trevor Project?
@obstschale @stonebear It is a crisis resource for lgbtq kids (primarily started as a suicide prevention line, but has expanded into many services)
@stonebear totally agree with the sentiment but it does seem a little misleading — it doesn’t clear the browsing history
@rachel_norfolk Well that sucks. Sounds like a bug. I should probably do some testing (I have a plethora of browsers and two different OSes to test with) and let them know if things aren't getting cleared. Thanks for the heads up!
@stonebear certainly not a bug of the browser. It’s intended design — the last thing anyone wants is a website to be able to manipulate the history
@stonebear For those who wanna know, the strip was created by Julia Kaye, an amazing artist who works in animation and who’s written and drawn two books of her experiences as a trans woman. https://instagram.com/upandoutcomic?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
@stonebear Over a long enough timeline progress always wins. But for those that are suffering lets see if we can speed that timeline up a lot.

@stonebear keep in mind this isn’t magic – trevorchat.org is an unencrypted redirect (which is bad, just find the page on e.g. Google to be sure your home or school has a harder time knowing you visited it), it cannot really erase your browser history (as seen on the screenshot), and you do have to trust the NGO keeps its stuff well maintained since afaik the chats are not encrypted beyond mere HTTPS

but honestly, it’s hurdles that are unlikely to go wrong, just make sure you’re using private Firefox with DNS over HTTPS and you’ll probably be fine

@stonebear fuck every parent that fails to love their child
@stonebear it’s a great cartoon except for one thing — it does not (and cannot) erase the browser history.

@stonebear same...

In an ideal world, we'd not have the need to be stealthy, but alas we ain't in an ideal world and thus need said features.

In fact I had to setup similar stuff with the option to remotely kick people off a chat system if their devices get seized and/or compromized.

@stonebear I lived when this did not exist (nor PCs for that matter). I hate that its needed, but glad it is available.
@stonebear It sucks that you can boost this only once...

@stonebear @SDWolf

Wow I hadn't heard of the Trevor Project. Just spent like 10 min reading through the Asexuality section. Damn I really wish there were resources like this when I was in high school figuring things out (and I still am really). Really glad this is a resource for them.

I'm a middle aged man and very disconnected from what the youth are going through these days, off in my own little middle aged world and my own little middle aged problems.

@stonebear I don't need it. But in case anyone I know *does*...
@stonebear Still wouldn't recommend using your own computer. Do it from a public one in a library or such.
Parental control software will still record it. It often also takes screenshots...
@stonebear
Hard to believe this is still needed in 2023... But still...
