As MAGA sheriffs in IL refuse to enforce IL’s new gun safety law—a reminder that it's "state's rights" when it comes to banning abortion, immigration, books, lgbtq, & 'woke' businesses—but it's magically not state's rights when passing proven gun safety laws.😑

Absurd hypocrisy.

Moreover, gun safety measures also save the lives of law enforcement. If you care about ensuring police officers get home safer, as I do, then you’d want to ensure weapons of war are not on the streets.

@QasimRashid I live in IL. What is being done to force law enforcement to comply with the law? Where should we be putting pressure to make it happen?

@PamSourelis @QasimRashid

Yes, I'm wondering the same. When some sheriff's said they wouldn't enforce this law, Pritzker reportedly said, "Yes you will".

So how does he handles this?

@juca @QasimRashid I would contact my state rep and senator, but they're both Republicans; the rep is a MAGA republican. So I guess I'll contact the governor's office and see what they have to say.

@PamSourelis @QasimRashid

Me, too! Are you in Southern IL by chance?

@juca No, I'm in Woodstock, 60 miles NW of Chicago, my home town. Woodstock is blue, but the county is red, red, red. I'm going to call the McHenry County sheriff's office tomorrow and see what they have to say about this.

@PamSourelis

It's pretty up there. My D and her husband live in Northbrook. When they were looking for a house, we scouted around up north, but the commutes get way too long.

I see you have some beautiful horses.

@juca Thank you,. They are very dear to me.
@juca Northbrook is actually way east of me. Woostock is about 15 miles from the western IL/WI border. When I moved out here 20 years ago, is was very rural. It's becoming suburban now, which I hate.

@PamSourelis

Suburbia has a way of consuming the pretty rural areas. To leave the city and find green spaces and wildlife, is such a breath of fresh air.

My impression is, that northern IL, west of Chicago is quite pretty, but I haven't had the chance to explore very far west.

@juca It used to be gorgeous. At least we still have large parks up here, including Glacial Park, a state park in Ringwood.

@PamSourelis

I've long thought it would be great to leave S. IL and move up there. It takes us 6 plus hours to get to our daughter's place.

I've looked at real estate in that whole area west of Chicago...the challenge for us, is that it is a much pricier market than down here in the sticks.

@juca @PamSourelis Try Wisconsin. Lower taxes, lower house prices, still pretty good schools (a little location dependent), ... GOP controlled state assembly, but they're not ultra-MAGA. (Yet?) Tons of state parks and trails, and you can get within a couple hours of Chicago, Milwaukee and Madison.

Been here 16 years. Wouldn't say I'll never leave, but I really enjoy it here.

@TehAnalyticsAreTehSuck @PamSourelis

I'd consider Wisconsin! I'd feel better if it were a blue state...but maybe we could help turn the state blue again.

My extended family has a cottage on the opposite side of the lake, and I think there's a ferry that goes across from Milwaukee. That could be handy.

Thanks!

@PamSourelis @juca Pam do lmk how it goes. I’m in northern IL too.

@QasimRashid @PamSourelis

Interesting! Nice to know...I can't wait to see how this plays out.

@QasimRashid @PamSourelis @juca Grew up in Carpentersville. Went to Dundee Crown. :) Anything those of us out of state can do?
@garpu Good question. Let me find out what the governor's office has to say about the threat from these sheriffs.
