He was the #Surrealist patron of #Dali and #Magritte and the missing face in the mirror of Magritte's "La Reproduction interdite." I wrote an essay that's currently available through open access (thank you #JohnsHopkinsUP!) about James, Magritte, and #Poe's Pym, which is the book on the ledge in the Magritte painting.
