Why I don't buy into #ChatGPT hype.

There are three key problems with all of these GPT-based #AI tools:

1. Pattern matching #algorithms, by definition, can never create anything new

2. Focusing on quantity, instead of quality, of #content is a race to the bottom.

3. AI tools lie. A lot.

AI Writing Tools Won't Save You from Creating Content

Why I don't buy into the hype around ChatGPT.

Attention Deficit Marketing Disorder
@mariyadelano Your first Substack article on #AI is very well-written. Thank you.
@EggKnees thank you! I’m curious what you thought of it given that you are much more of a proponent of this technology than I am.

@mariyadelano Can a "proponent" sit on the fence for a while? I'm optimistic that it will develop into a set of tools where you are prevented from repeatedly hitting your thumb. In your case, it would need to have access to a lot more facts. That would save you having to factcheck everything it makes up.

When it's used for language-related matters, I've seen it shine but there are massive legal problems in store.

I hate the bias (a nurse is female, doctor is male etc) and the odd opinions.

@EggKnees I really appreciate the nuance in your opinion.

It's hard for me to say if I agree with your prediction because I don't know enough about the tech. From the research and explainers I've read by AI specialists, I don't know if a generalist AI model can ever do the things you're hoping for. But so much of this is speculation so I try to mostly speak on and try to persuade people based on things that are clear with the tech we have right now.

@mariyadelano I suppose, in the limit, cash will dictate where it ends up. If one million coders are paying $25 a month for a toolset that helps them make a day's pay in half a day then it's a no-brainer. Competition will be very stiff.

I do believe it will ripple out and affect a lot of creative people but, thus far, it can't write songs like what I write!
