@DeerWhispers This new policy seems to be for inpatient/long term. Which means the hospitals will be sending the VA requests for eligibility determinations.Because not everyone who leaves the military is a veteran.The hospital doesn't decide that, the VA does. This was the policy previously:

@BecauseUAreHere The eligibility qualifications that define Veteran status for the purpose of this program are spelled out in this release.
@DeerWhispers yes, but it usually takes a week if the person goes into a facility other than a VA run one, as this allows for. Hospital won't know true eligibility until they send it to the VA for determination. Hubz is sending me supporting info as he's a Rater for the VA. It is a great step in allowing for care to help with what they need without getting a bill for it, therefore helping those desperately in need.
@BecauseUAreHere Exactly. Thanks for the info.

@DeerWhispers yeppers.

If you want to really see something fun, here's just one part of the regulations they have to follow as part of a determination.

@BecauseUAreHere lol. It's pretty long, but it seems to be well detailed. I've known many Veterans who've navigated the process. It can be daunting.
@BecauseUAreHere The main difference in the new policy is the Veteran does not need to be currently enrolled in the system.
@DeerWhispers This is wonderful news. Thanks for sharing. #vets #SuicidePrevention #va

@DeerWhispers

Is anyone suprised that people who choose to kill other people are suicidal? Maybe they should have picked a career where they don't have to kill anyone?

@newsorpigal This is an insensitive and ignorant statement. Reported and blocked.
@DeerWhispers This service should have Always been available to Veterans
@sp2962 I'm just grateful that it's available now.
