Watch out, a car's going to hit you!
“I don't believe it.”
Look, it's right there.
“You're exaggerating.”
No, you should move.
“I am free to stand where I want!”
But you'll be hit.
“I've been hit by cars before.”
Please move!
“Stop living in fear.”
I am afraid--that you'll be killed.
“We can't eliminate car crashes. We must learn to live with them.”
I beg... oops, too late.
“Please get me to a hospital.”
I can't--they're overcrowded with others who wouldn't step out of the way of cars.

@augieray I like to use a different analogy: you are in a public place with an active shooter and have a similar discussion with a person that is blocking your way out because they are too afraid of cars to run out to the street...

@augieray

The next time someone asks if you don't feel less free because of #maskingUp, ask them if they feel less free wearing sunglasses when the sun is bright.

There's very little difference, except the sun in your eyes wont actually kill you.

@sparseMatrix
If anyone ever has the audacity to say one word to me about my mask...
Sorry, can't complete within rules.

@augieray @fox_stirling

Here’s another car analogy I saw. Can’t quote it verbatim since it was long ago but it was the anti-masker view.

Everyone is driving safe cars on the freeway which are capable of maintaining themselves and going the speed limit. But a broken down car that is on the verge of falling apart wants to drive on the freeway.

Do you make everyone else slow down on the freeway or ask the broken car to stay off?

Something like that. Pfffft…

@augieray
Works the same for climate.
@augieray "Seatbelts aren't even that effective! I still got in a crash, and my seatbelt did nothing to prevent it. I might as well not wear it, then!"

@augieray
NBC provides excellent data showing the vast difference COVID-19 death rates between political affiliations. Maybe big posters would help. Or hypnosis🤓 https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/covid-death-rates-higher-republicans-democrats-why-rcna50883

Also, this study sheds some light onto science deniers. I highlighted the salient info in photos.

Covid death rates higher among Republicans than Democrats, research shows

Lower vaccination rates among Republicans could explain why Covid deaths are lower among Democrats, but masking and social distancing may also play a role.

@augieray i though you were talking about the climate at first.
@Supposenot Our species is not very good at evaluating and avoiding any risks that aren't immediate and individual.
@augieray hehe reminded me of Diogenes and the horse cart.
@augieray
[Alternate Universe:]
“Thank goodness that car swerved just in time and avoided hitting you!”
“You see? There was no car.”
@norsesquirrelgod True! "I went out five times this month without getting COVID or masking, so that means I have no risk" (said three weeks before the hospidal admission.)
@augieray Just picturing King Arthur and the Black Knight here. "It's only a flesh wound." 😆
@penguinpete "Come back here and take what's coming to you! I'll bite your legs off!” 😂
@augieray @atfun #darwin #DarwinAward It’s the flip side of the “let my immune system do it’s job” argument. 😉
@btaroli @augieray
We're getting closer to "Idiocracy" going from movie comedy to real life.

@augieray

No big changes to cover climate change too.

@augieray
Sadly, it keeps happening
