Talked to a colleague today who is #immunocompromised after a #HeartTransplant. They've been having inexplicable fatigue and muscle/joint pain for 6-8 weeks that gets worse with exercise instead of better. They were #COVIDPositive 12 weeks ago.

I mentioned #LongCOVID & they had not heard of it.

Three years into the pandemic, the recipient of an organ transplant - w/ multiple medical teams in multiple states - was unaware that COVID could cause long-term disability. No one told her.

@honeycrisp That is so awful for them and so bad they weren't aware. Hope they can get some help.
@honeycrisp it's astonishing that anyone could not know that at this point. But then I speak from a very biased point of view I suppose, as someone who has followed it and taken it seriously from the start.
The information is out there though, I even see it at places like CNN sometimes. I guess it speaks to the fact that the messaging, especially over the last year or so, has been that covid is "over," always "mild," and we can get back to normal. Ugh. Hope she feels better.

@honeycrisp

Sorry to hear about anyone dealing with post exertion symptom exacerbation.

Sadly I am not surprised though that so many are still in the dark.

I am 33 years with #MyalgicEncephalomyelitis and have seen how deep the systemic bias runs.

We need a complete rework of narrative for all neuroimmune diseases to reach the public. We need accurate journalism & Gov health agencies to get the word out. These aren't simply "fatigue".

@honeycrisp My daughter has Lupus. She got COVID in June and that made her completely immunosuppressed; her WBC count dropped to zero. Luckily she responded pretty well to CSF and that basically restored her bone marrow brand new.

COVID is weird and random.

@honeycrisp
Long Covid is a massive problem and the reason why we all need to NOT get covid repeatedly.

Mask up
Get vaxed
Avoid crowded spaces if poss.

@honeycrisp Listened to a CBC Radio call in show the other day. The subject expert on the show says that studies have determined that there are 1.4 million Canadian's suffering the affects of long COVID. How could someone not have heard of this issue?
