I’m glad to see at least *some* GOP House members (four now and counting from his home state) call for George Santos to resign. His local party bosses concur. Santos must go!

Let’s keep up the pressure. Americans agree on so little, but most would say that he should step down. The GOP leadership needs to understand this.

@georgetakei he shouldn’t be asked to resign. Whatever government agency handles the many problems Santos carries should get involved. For what I have read, there might be criminal offences.
@david @georgetakei Name the last time a high-ranking politician was jailed. I'll wait.
@pies @georgetakei but, is he high ranking? He is just a lying-nobody-noob.
@david @georgetakei That's _representative_ lying nobody noob to you, mister.
@pies @georgetakei 😂 you may have a point, I would agree. We’ll see, he isn’t filthy rich. The older I get, the more I realise how some of our laws, and modus operandi toward the rich, and powerful, are messed up.
@david @georgetakei You mean... like the agency new GOP rules just gutted?

@georgetakei
From the sounds of things, what he probably *really* needs is prison-time.

I do wonder how long it will take for someone to organize a recall vote, or if his district really is more-concerned with "owning the libtards".

@ferricoxide @georgetakei
Or, possibly, more interested in keeping the funding secret.
@georgetakei that guy seems like such a dufus. Too bad the GOP's MO is to double down on dufusry when they get called on it. Pretty soon we'll have people rationalizing the whole thing, saying, "you know what, I like that he lied and cheated his way into elected office - it shows initiative, and that's who I want representing me!"
@georgetakei I'm surprised they didn't turn on him immediately after they got his speaker vote. I figured that was they only reason they hadn't.....Besides being..well... republicans.
@georgetakei Mr Taco. Who are some good accounts to follow on here?
@georgetakei
The GOP will never force Santos out. But the EDNY prosecutors will indict him for FEC violations and fraud and by the rules he cannot be on a committee while indicted.
@Lbarnowsky @georgetakei They have rules?!? Who follows rules anymore?
@ILoveLucy @Lbarnowsky @georgetakei Yea given how it was accepted that Trump lied each and every day, it is no surprise.
@georgetakei The day of his swearing-in should be made a national holiday. All prescription medications should made free of charge on George Santos Day, as a stern reminder to our corporate overlords that this must never again be allowed to happen.
@georgetakei Where were these guys when Santos was running?
@4d3fect @georgetakei unaware of the problems most likely. The fact that he made this fare is a critical failure by the media, local and state GOP offices and more critically by the voters of that district. Doubly so for primary voters.
@georgetakei I’d like to say I’m going to enjoy watching him go down, but the way the world works now he’ll be around forever and probably be president in 6 years. I’ve completely given up. The fact he needs to be “asked to resign” says it all.
@georgetakei Sadly, there are those who haven't and likely because they see the resemblance between him and their leader, Trump, who also has difficulty telling the truth.
@MaryMRedoutey @georgetakei True, but when you lose Tulsi Gabbard live on Tucker's White Power Hour and you've lost NewsMax... Is there any recovering from that?
@georgetakei GOP leadership has a vested interest in NOT UNDERSTANDING the message the public is sending them on George Santos. Preserving their slim majority takes precedence over ethical, moral & decency concerns. Just like they defended Trump’s insurrection & corruption, they will defend Santos fraudulent & indefensible stand of not resigning. They’ll manufacture flimsy excuses, obfuscate & evade responsibility. It’s become the only Party rule: keep power at all costs.
@georgetakei he needs to be FIRED! And then put in jail or whatever
@georgetakei I don't think "GOP" and "leadership" go together at all anymore.
@georgetakei But they DIDN'T call for his resignation before McCarthy's vote. That does not suggest any integrity.
@georgetakei
I don't understand why the GOP suddenly started acting like it doesn't approve of pathological liars. It never bothered them before.
@georgetakei I’m afraid GOP and Leadership are mutually exclusive
@georgetakei While we are at it, can we remove Matt Gaetz for his sexual involvement with a minor? The discourse is interesting because former presidents have had less moral standing with the general public than current sitting politicians.
@georgetakei They conveniently waited until AFTER the vote for speaker of the house.
@georgetakei you are saying people who act from hate, intolerance and a desire to oppress minorities and women should develop understanding. They don't want to understand. They just want people under their thumb. The election result was a clear repudiation of abortion laws yet the first act of the GOP was to introduce a new national abortion law. They don't listen and they can't learn. The GOP needs to be disbanded because it is a subversive hate group.
@georgetakei How is that even possible it does not came out before the election, like the school where he wasn't found and Goldman Sachs where he never worked, isn't that a basic fact check a candidate has to survive. Sounds like a 3rd world country.
@georgetakei @Albert_Hubble The incumbent Santos beat certainly has no business running for office again, and his campaign staff needs to find another line of work. The failure to do basic opposition research here is that bad.
@patrickoldhiker @georgetakei The sad thing is, there is not even a reputation left at the republicans that can be damaged. People are so used to it already.
@georgetakei I agree, but I don't like how it strengthens the perception that lying, rather than deceiving, is the line to not cross. A society that says it's okay to deceive as long as technically you didn't lie is still a society without truth.
@georgetakei McCarthy argues that Santos' voters put him in office, but they voted for what he said he was, not for what he actually is. If Santos were a menu order, and he arrived at your table wrong, as a diner, you could return it!

@georgetakei I think kyrsten sinema's lies are FAR more damaging than the kind Santos told.

I do not care that he didn't really work for Goldman Sachs. I DO care that sinema lied about how she would vote. But holding her responsible isn't even on the table

Let's not pretend all that money she's been "gifted" or whatever isn't JUST as corrupt as whatever Santos did.

@georgetakei If that is even his name. The Brazilian press has found that he used multiple names. What is the name on his birth certificate? Where was he born?
@not2b @georgetakei My guess is that Santos is neither a US citizen nor a legal resident of the US.
@georgetakei Kevin said all GQP and supreme friends lied to get their Jobs
@georgetakei No surprise, is it, that a Kevin McCarthy is calling for #Santos to serve a full term anyway, proving that what matters is not ethics or integrity but just ensuring another vote for him. Could #McCarthy be more craven and despicable?
@georgetakei
Unfortunately McCarthy is only out for HIMSELF. He knows Santos would be his breaking vote FOR him everytime (must be a deal he made to keep him in Congress).
McCarthy KNOWS Santos had deceived The People & "won" an election in N.Y. by running on 'pretending to be a person he was NOT'.
So when McCarthy claimed that he will keep Santos to "honor" The People's voice, he is full of sh*t, and he KNOWS it.
BTW, whatever happened to "honoring The People's voice" when we elected Biden?
@georgetakei If ChatGPT were a person, it would be George Santos. It will say what you want, but there is a high chance it may not be true.
@georgetakei The GOP margin is so small they can’t afford to sacrifice that seat they just flipped back to Democrats. If they can keep him afloat for 2 years, everybody will forget about it by the next election.

@georgetakei At least while he stays and drives McCarthy and his pals crazy we can bask in a delightful feeling of Schadenfreude . My blog: Santos leads the GOP in eliciting Schadenfreude, no doubt more to come.

Santos leads the GOP in eliciting Schadenfreude, no doubt more to come

@georgetakei Most likely they’re calling for his resignation because an investigation into his corruption would implicate them, too.
@georgetakei sadly, the GOP isn’t saying this because of Santos’ lies, they’re doing it because of the bad publicity hurting fundraising.
#ThereAreNoGoodRepublicans

@georgetakei The only reason they're going after him now is that he broke the one unwritten rule no Republican must ever break: never scam rich Republican donors.

It didn't matter if he lied to his constituents. They're just little people. But when he lied to the people with money, that's when the knives came out.
