Wow people don’t like it when you don’t like the thing they like.

Never had such a bad like to dislike ratio on a video before. From the comments, I know it’s not that the video is bad.

It’s Android people not liking someone saying « Android doesn’t work for me ».

Baffling.

@thelinuxEXP
wait for it, that video is getting viral 🤪
@thelinuxEXP But it could also be iSheeps who don't like your justified criticism of iOS.
@unixviking Haha might be as well, but from the comments, it seems more like Android fanboys
@thelinuxEXP 1/2 - That will probably be the case, because I think your target audience from the channel is also more likely to use Android smartphones. I don't know how I come up with this, but I find the combination of Linux, FOSS, free software, open source, etc. on the one hand AND on the other hand the money machine and the closed system APPLE - that somehow doesn't really fit together. In my opinion, two opposing worlds and ideologies collide here.
@thelinuxEXP 2/2 - But funny that just you now use iPhone again... but I can understand it. I myself have always used iPhones, iPhone 5, iPhone 8, iPhone XS, iPhone 13 & 13 Mini. But I HATE iOS. Then after a few tries with /e/OS, Graphene and Calyx, I've been building my own ecosystem for the last few months and I'm pretty happy now.
@unixviking I’d prefer using @e_mydata , it’s my favorite ROM. But I can’t find a phone they support that fits my needs, unfortunately!
@thelinuxEXP @e_mydata I agree with you ABSOLUTELY! I also wrote Gael once in this regard a toot that the system Murena is really great, but far too many old smartphones, but no modern flagships are supported, and this may need to be rethought here. But sure, he didn't reply to that.

@unixviking

@thelinuxEXP @e_mydata Murena is working on their own hardware! It's going to be based on the Luna Mobile Platform.

@thelinuxEXP @unixviking There are Android fanboys?!
I think it's pretty decent at its core, but what about it would have people saying it's *the best*?
@nalvolzipcpi @unixviking I don’t know if it’s Android fanboys or Apple haters!
@thelinuxEXP @unixviking Oh right; I understand what about it might make Apple *the worst*.
@thelinuxEXP maybe if you went into detail as to why every implementation falls short oh wait
@thelinuxEXP Everything has its flaws despite the fanboy beliefs. It's amazing how people seem to forget that.
@thelinuxEXP I hate when people are loyal to corporations and brands like they wouldn’t sell you out within a second if it was a buck to be made

@thelinuxEXP so silly. In my life I've used Windows, Mac, Linux, iPhone and Android.

Should I hate myself

@codemonkeymike Hahaha yeah I used basically everything « mainstream » plus Linux. Everything has advantages and drawbacks!
@thelinuxEXP haha exactly. Oh and I forgot MS-DOS. That was just peak awesome
@thelinuxEXP It's a shame as really people really should just go for what works for them. Have you noticed any issues with touch targets on the iPhone? i remember having one for work and it felt like i was constantly missing buttons.
@thelinuxEXP Fanboys I guess. Makes no sense, it's not like the company ever paid them. Why do they have to be so protective about it.

@thelinuxEXP i think its abundently clear neither of them respect you or your data, choosing between google and apple is like choosing between a kick in the nuts or a punch to the teeth lol.

And unfortunatley linux likely wont catch up on mobile for another decade...

Apple does seem to have slightly better data policies but is MUCH worse to use on a daily basis for anyone who enjoys sideloaded apps. Its like hating someone who perfers pepsi, sure i like coke but its killin me

@thelinuxEXP your criticism of chinese manufacturers is very funny though lol how do you forget snowden?
@redlilrascal One thing being bad doesn’t make the other ok ;)
@thelinuxEXP i agree, i dont think its really possible to get away from these govt hands esp on android regardless of OS. Apple does seem to be the best at not working with states.
@thelinuxEXP @redlilrascal then, why not also refuse to use phones from us brands
@Ember @redlilrascal Because I trust US companies more with the ability to say to their government « EU citizens can’t have their data repatriated in the US », than I trust Chinese companies doing the same thing, since the Chinese government is a totalitarian nightmare and could very much compel them to do so.
@thelinuxEXP @Ember the us is also a totalalitarian government who has been shown to be doing literally the same thing except they hide it and we find out from wistleblowers. Need i remind you the US has concentration camps for migrants?
@redlilrascal @Ember Yes, that was terrible. It was also under the previous administration, which changed because the US is still a democracy. It’s a bad one, but it’s still better than China, which is actively deporting and committing crimes against their own population (Ouïgours) for religious beliefs. Can’t compare the 2 at all ok that front. Both bad, but not even in the same ballpark.
@thelinuxEXP @Ember dude the concentration camps are still there and biden was vice president at their peak, he hates migrants. How can you not compare religious persecution to the persecution of refugees caused by american foreign policy? Google biden migrant camp dude its the exact same fuckin thing ripping families apart as under Trump. The conditions in US detention centers are some of the worst ever

@redlilrascal @Ember I’m not saying it’s good. It’s still not genocide. We’re comparing war crimes at that point, but you simply CAN’T say that the US is worse or equivalent to China in terms of human rights violations and pure oppression. You can’t, it’s just not the case.

Yes, the US is an atrocious place. It’s rotten with these camps, the death penalty, racism and inequality. It’s still better than what China currently is.

@thelinuxEXP @Ember The US holds literally 1/5th of the worlds prison population lol. It has 698 ppl per capita while china has 121 per capita. Calling it better sounds about white.

@redlilrascal @Ember Prison in the US isn’t a prison camp in China. Not admitting that sounds about ignorant. Why do they have less prisoners? Because they die in labor camps, and because China’s population is so, so much bigger than the US, it’s bound to have less people imprisoned.

This conversation is going nowhere if you’re arguing in bad faith. And I don’t care personally. I’m not even from the US or China, I have no horse in this race. You’re just wrong.

@redlilrascal @Ember Ohhhhh ok. Maoist, it says in your profile. Well I guess if you support Mao there’s nothing left to talk about. I’m all for well implemented communism, but Mao? Really??
@thelinuxEXP @Ember Maoists are the only communists in the world fighting armed revolutions, in india the phillipines peru brazil.... Were very against chinese capitalism and social imperialism. Maos China was the highest stage of socialism and was destroyed by dengite reforms in '79. Its just dumb to not see the US as the primary imperialist power in the world and literally based on colonial genocide.

@redlilrascal @Ember Mao was an abominable person who murdered and imprisoned tens of millions of people. If that’s the peak of socialism, why not applaud Stalin as well 🤮🤮

Sorry, but the US being a bad country doesn’t make Mao, or current China good. Both can be atrocious, and you’d have to be blind to think the US in its current form is worse than current China.

End of the conversation, facts don’t seem to exist for you.

@thelinuxEXP iOS is so bad by comparison that people are stockholmed into believing Android is anything but a shitshow
@thelinuxEXP now I'm even more interested in your opinion
@thelinuxEXP did you ever consider Motorola phones?
@sjc They’re owned by Lenovo, which is a Chinese company, and I’d like to avoid companies that have to report to the Chinese government in terms of data or potential backdoors :/
@thelinuxEXP I completely forgot that Google sold them to Lenovo 😕
@sjc Yeah, it’s not great. But maybe the company is still run from the US and isn’t subject to Chinese law, though.
@thelinuxEXP "You have changed"
@fabiscafe I’ve been called a traitor, and a few people actively unsubscribed as well 😂 (not remotely enough to be a concern, it’s like 12 people)

@thelinuxEXP It's as you say. Some people just dont want to follow you, but the human form of their expectations. If you're unwilling to be that, they have to leave.

Thats part of why linux is a toxic space. There is far to much emotional material around that holds back whole projects and kills cool new ideas.

@thelinuxEXP Tribalism is weird. Ever since I was a teenager when it was Commodore 64 vs ZX Spectrum it’s been something I try not to do but passion for something can be hard to temper (as can being overly defensive when someone criticises your own choices). But however bad the comments are, there are way more of us out here who appreciate your views and opinions.
@simon I remember the Genesis (Mega Drive) vs SNES days…
@thelinuxEXP And now I feel old enough to be your dad! 😂
@simon 😂 Don’t worry, I came into electronics pretty late!
@thelinuxEXP it's impressive if somebody can use Android without noticing that it's fundamentally broken - but that's the product

@thelinuxEXP
I ge the impression that people use the like/dislike buttons to express whether they agree / disagree with the opinions in a video (as in a vote), rather that to say for example that they found a video usesful and recommend it to others, or conversely that there was something wrong with the video.

Whereas it's rare for me to dislike a video unless I think the person is (say) misrepresenting or makes unsubstantiated criticisms caused by a lack of understanding.

@thelinuxEXP If I had to give a critique for that video, I think you gave a poor comprehension of the various different manufacturers that exist for Android.

There's Asus, Sony, Fairphone, and much more. From your latest video, it just seemed like you looked at Samsung, Google, and some Chinese brands and think that's what represents Android. It's a narrow look at what Android has to offer.

@thelinuxEXP I’m a Linux user but I can’t stand the google ecosystem, so I use an iPhone. I would love for there to be a decent Linux phone someday.
@thelinuxEXP I disliked the video personally because it's not the type of content I'd like to see when subscribed to your channel. I subscribed for FOSS news, coverage, reviews, etc, not talking about proprietary platforms. Is that not what the dislike button is for?

@thatonecalculator Most of the video talks about Android, though, not a proprietary platform.

And everyone has every right to dislike, it’s just frustrating when you know most people did it because « oh no Apple bad »

@thelinuxEXP that's fair, but both are proprietary platforms (AOSP/custom roms account for a miniscule percent of users). "oh no apple bad" isn't the best mentality to have, but there's valid reasons why people hold that sentiment.
