Unsplash seem to be using AI to caption their images, and it’s going great! #AltText #a11y #accessibility
@alex What's going to be great is when the next round of AI scoops these images & captions up for training
@lmorchard I hadn’t thought of that – perhaps there’ll be demand for ‘pre-2020s’ training sets, sort of like demand for low-background steel in the 20th century
@alex it's going so-so but it's a nice initiative 🤦 🙂 👍
@jaimeiniesta I wonder if it could be used to help with quality control for user-provided alt text (or just as a starting point for it)
@alex definitely as a starting point, as a suggestion for alt text, so developers are not so lazy to fill it in? Probably, improving a suggestion is more fun than filling in a blank one
@alex @jaimeiniesta It'd need to prompt the user with the text, but I could totally see them using this to weaponize Cunningham's Law: "The best way to get the right answer on the internet is not to ask a question; it's to post the wrong answer."

@alex the machine

@arcade tfw you are operating

…'the machine'

@alex @arcade the phrasing has such strong /r/TwoSentenceHorror vibes to me, despite obviously not fitting: The woman was wearing a white dress. / She was operating the machine.
