[typing into iOS spotlight]

Me: 1
iOS: oh you must want @1Password

Me: 1P
iOS: yep, definitely 1Password

Me: 1Pa
iOS: 1 Pascal is equal to 0.0003 inches of mercury

@yaakov EVERY. FUCKING. TIME!
@yaakov (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻
@elfenlaid @yaakov Anyone watching me use the iOS keyboard will find either there’s something wrong with me or with iOS.
@yaakov @aleen the bright side is it happens on both iOS and macOS?
@cpytel You have always struck me as a 'glass half full' kind of person.
@yaakov @slims truth. This after exclusively asking for 1password the last 100 times. Spotlight is like “c’mon, this time it’s gotta be pressure unit conversion!”

@yaakov @dmoren Thank gawd it’s not just me going crazy. This drives me nuts!

See also: making a typo in a Spotlight search, but all the resulting ‘web’ answers are for the correct word, it’s just Spotlight that can’t figure it out which app I meant.

@yaakov @shriramk Omg that is so dumb because EVERYONE knows that there is a space between quantity and unit!!1
@yaakov on mine it tells me that 1 Pascal = 0.0075 Torr. WTF even is a Torr?
@yaakov @dmoren AAARGH this gets me multiple times A DAY
@yaakov the number of times I’ve been here as well

@yaakov @dmoren Reminds me of something I see often using Spotlight on Mac:

“r” through “rem” matches Microsoft Remote Desktop

“Remo” matches Remote Desktop (the Apple one)

Then “remot” through “remote desktop“ matches the Microsoft one again

@yaakov You’d think after the 1000 times this has happened before, spotlight would learn what I mean. But no.
@yaakov @viticci Ah ! I knew it, it’s not just with me !
@yaakov This is me, every time I want to open the contacts app on my iPhone. One of their own standard apps, and still the search cannot find it. Never sure what else this clearly defective search function misses... glad to hear it isn't just me that has issues with the search though.
@Bluedonkey @yaakov I have this issue as well. Certain apps can be found with spotlight and others are completely unknown to it. I keep wondering if I changed a setting somewhere which prevents certain apps from appearing in search results.

@yaakov Made worse because three letters is guaranteed to give me the exact app I’m looking for in every situation other than 1Password. Very frustrating. Makes me wish for Raycast-style shortcuts on iOS.
@yaakov That result must be getting so much more traction from all the incorrect taps on it because I end up hitting it all the time by accident as well.
@yaakov FWIW, “pas” works fine and you avoid needing to shift in and out of numerics first. :)
@yaakov I get 1Password, every time
@yaakov this. Exactly. iOS keeps suggesting other forms of a word more often than the base word. Not “suggest” but suggesting, suggested, suggests. Everything other than the one I want 🤯🤨
@yaakov That’s why I stop at 1. 😉

@yaakov @macmaniacs on my Mac:

Me: m
Mac: you mean MoneyMoney, right?

Me: mo
Mac: yeah, sure, MoneyMoney it is!

Me: mon (enter)
Mac: here we go: right into the Monitor setup

@yaakov This shit is what forced me back to give Raycast another try after I gave up on it a few months prior
@yaakov HOW DID IT KNOW MY PASSWORD?
@yaakov good god not you too
@yaakov and of course my brain picks up “oh, it’s helpfully autocompleting to 1Password, the thing I want, i will now tap the search result” a nanosecond after the bait has been switched
@chrisamaphone @yaakov yeah i have ALSO accidentally clicked on it so i assume i am forever doomed to learn pascal conversions

Attached: 1 image okay wait this LITERALLY just started happening to me on iOS and i was going to post about it thinking it is a recent bug, but this post is a hundred days old??? https://cloudisland.nz/@yaakov/109657471919268150

WEATHER IS HAPPENING
@yaakov Huh, at least on macOS that’s case-sensitive too. “1pa” gets 1Password, “1Pa” gets the conversion to inches of mercury
