If you're moving between Mastodon servers:

‼️ DO NOT DELETE YOUR OLD ACCOUNT UNTIL ALL OF YOUR FOLLOWERS ARE SYNCED UP ‼️

This can take a while since it needs to reach out to every follower on every server, so it does this in small batches.

If you delete your account before it completes, you'll lose whatever followers have not synced up yet.

Additionally, you can export your follows/followers list (and other lists) in your account Preferences. Import options are limited though.

@DStan58 Some users might want to switch to a server that's topic specific so they can interact with more users specifically for that topic in the Local timeline (like a writing, art, or sports server), some people might not like the rules of the server they are on, some might have a faster connection to a server in their country or region, and some servers offer other features like larger image upload sizes, higher character limits, and things like that.
