For my sins I listened to The Federalist podcast take on the shenanigans in the House. I learned that (according to them) Jim Jordan is a sell-out, that “establishment Republicans” like McCarthy & McConnell are part of a uniparty with the Democrats (who are still dangerous radical left Socialists, of course) and that these sorts of contested Speaker votes happen all the time [narrator: last time was 1923].

I also learned that the only real conservatives are in the House Freedom Caucus and that these far right commentators say they find themselves agreeing quite often with “leftists” like Briahna Joy Gray.
It seemed notable that the two ads were for 1) a podcast series that can bring you daily doses of the "living word of God" via the Bible and 2) an online Casino where you can win tons of money. This podcast, last I checked, is recorded at the DC campus of Hillsdale College, the far right Christian college that was behind Trump's shambolic 1776 Project and many of the anti-CRT initiatives around the country.
I also learned that Covid definitely came from a "lab leak" and that the media and Fauci have been lying to you about it this entire time, that Trey Gowdy is also a RINO squish, that Fox News is just part of the "uniparty" apparatus at this point, and that Chip Roy is one of the few people in Congress willing to stand on principle.
I will say that these folks seem pretty well sourced in terms of access to the Chip Roy's of the world. They rightly pointed out that mainstream coverage has had difficulty explaining why people like Jim Jordan and MTG are on opposite sides of this struggle than Boebert and Gaetz. While there is some diversity of opinion on the far right worth noting, it pales in comparison to the many extreme things they generally agree on. Like blowing up the federal government because freedom.
@sethcotlar what no horse hormone pills for longevity and masculinity?
@sethcotlar now THERES a loaded statement (theirs, not yours)
@sethcotlar if they're a uniparty, my congratulations to Speaker Jeffries. 🙄

@sethcotlar I

Yep, the Federalist's continual downplaying of the Speaker debacle is quite illuminating (they almost have to wheel out their usual culture war tropes & bugaboos to provide distraction & content).
This is only second to others on the right trying to sell the spectacle as a 'good thing', an example of a healthy democracy in action.

I figure in the end McCarthy will give enough concessions to the MAGA caucus to get over the top, but in the meantime, it's great schadenfreude.

@sethcotlar The Federalist has become indistinguishable from the Breitbart comments section. It's never been good, but the slippage into conspiratorial language like "uniparty" is a notable change in the last couple of years.
@sethcotlar They long for the days when Teapot Dome could chug along unnoticed and everything was normal.
@sethcotlar what’s the audience size for such hokum?
@CinciMike Not sure. My guess would be in the tens of thousands of listeners.
@sethcotlar thanks Seth, glad to see you on mastodon
@sethcotlar @ochaos this is average day in crazy town
@sethcotlar It’s fascinating to me that even right wing podcasts/radio are now split. The old guard (Hewitt, Hannity, Levin) are beside themselves with the traitorous Freedom Caucus while the newcomers (Bongino, etc.) are cheering them on. Hewitt has been inviting listeners to call in about which side they support, and I would say the clear majority support the “traitorous” 20. Hewitt cannot believe how little the listeners understand about part loyalty to advance a platform.
@sethcotlar thank you for listening to them federalists are the worst
