Let's say McCarthy manages to win over the last holdouts. What's next? The concessions he has already made guarantees an utterly dysfunctional House. His Speakership would have a constant sword of Damocles over it. Just one member could impede him with a motion to vacate. There are at least 7 strong holdouts who would be more than happy to kneecap him.

The best McCarthy can hope for is a Pyrrhic victory, but it does not seem that he understands that.

@jayreding I think that's all he wants. Being called a leader is what he craves. Not actually leading. That takes serious effort.

@shoq @jayreding It absolutely is all he wants. He wants it so bad he can taste it and the right wingers can smell his desperation like sharks smell blood. McCarthy, the right wingers, and Trump are all cut from the same cloth — they want the title, the trappings, the personal power, and the control, but none of them want to actually do the job.

@jayreding He agreed to it. That doesn't mean it's going to happen. He could not put it in the rules or the rules could be changed as part of the voting process. Is sure to be a continuing chaos for weeks and months.

@jayreding I'm more concerned about the "sword of Damocles" they want to have over the rest of us.

I don't care that GOP policies won't get passed because there's no chance in hell they'll get out of the Senate, never mind Biden and the veto.

But what they really want (and the Post openly said so) is to stop any chance of raising the debt ceiling.

They don't care what those impacts are, because they are that damn stupid. If we can't get a ceiling bill out, we're all totally screwed.
