Saw something like this go around last year and forgot to take part so let me ask, Devs what was:
1) the first game you played?
2) game you love from childhood/teen years?
3) the game that inspired you to become a dev?
4) game that inspires you to be a better dev?
#gamedev

@BraveRobynArt

1) I'm not 100% certain, but it was probably Commander Keen in Invasion of the Vorticons

2) Thief 2! Even today its atmosphere is unmatched, and there are STILL far too few games that have mechanics as awesome as rope arrows.

3) Again, Thief 2. The fact that you could MOD A GAME?! Revolutionary for my teen brain.

4) Inspires me to be a better dev? TF2, baby. It did so many things right for its first few years, and it's a continual inspiration even if it's gotten weird.

@[email protected] needed to guess at the first game as well. Tetris is the first one i remember, that and doom.
I missed the Thief games growing up, as only has a Gameboy and then a Super Nintendo. I really need to go back and play them. Great list!!!
@BraveRobynArt The Thief games are pretty rough these days unless you're comfortable with ancient mouse+KB control schemes and super blocky graphics, but the atmosphere and voice acting are incredibly fun, and the mechanics are still super solid. Highly recommended.
@xavierck I’m better with that stuff these days, I used to be like “OMG is so clunky an old I can’t play this” but I see the attraction in older games now, also going back and playing my favs from childhood and catching up on things that I missed because we didn’t have a PC for a long time when I was little.
