I'm doing more #Christmas #Midjourney prompts this evening.

Here we have Christmas #Bast (#kemetic #gods #Egypt)

It came up with two VERY different results so I've shown samples of both here. #AIart

@Nesi Hi! I saw one of your recent posts about playing the French horn, and I was wondering if you use the horn to play any Kemetic music? Thank you!
@Bigpenguin Not as of yet anyway :)
@Nesi Oh okay! Do you mind if I ask some about the French horn? It's a beautiful instrument! Do you play any others?
@Bigpenguin I do, I play quite a few instruments actually.
@Nesi Oh that's neat, which ones? :)
@Bigpenguin my main instruments were Flute, Bassoon, Bass Clarinet, and Euphonium. I can play the Trombone and Bb Clarinet, piano, some guitar. French horn is new.
@Nesi Definitely a lot! How many of those do you own and get to play regularly?
@Bigpenguin I own a flute, a bass clarinet, 2 french horns, a baritone horn (it's like a small euphonium), and I think that's it right now. There's a clarinet around here somewhere maybe but it's in a state of disrepair.
@Nesi ohhh wow that's a small orchestra! :) What's the bass clarinet like to play? I love its deep low notes

@Bigpenguin it's good, I find it easier to play than a regular clarinet actually, and I'm a big fan of low-note instruments (hence bassoon, bass clarinet, euphonium)

French horn is a much higher instrument than I'm used to, very small mouthpiece, it's a challenge as a result

@Nesi Oh gotcha, I wouldn't have expected bass to be easier than clarinet but it's really interesting. I love low instruments too. Do you get to play the bassoon regularly?

Do you ever play Kemetic music on any of your instruments?

@Bigpenguin I was primarily a bassoon player up until a few months ago, I ended up selling my bassoon. Reason was mostly due to my back unfortunately. I absolutely adore it and I'm quite good at it.

Ancient Egyptian / Kemetic music never really made it into much of my instruments, I've tried on my flute to play some things that kind of 'felt' in that vibe, but that was a few years ago now. It's easier to adlib on the flute overall which as long as you have the right key signature can sound very Kemetic in nature.

I think the rest of the instruments I play don't lend a lot of good flow to that style of music though if someone is good at playing, you can play anything :)

@Nesi Oh that's a shame, was it just hard to hold the bassoon well with back issues like that?

And that's interesting, I don't know much about music for that matter but it's interesting to talk to someone who does and I wouldn't have really considered how well genres would lend themselves to an instrument like that.
Which instrument do you think you play the best?

Do you plan to learn any more instruments?

@Bigpenguin yes it's a very back/neck heavy instrument to hold unfortunately, and I have arthritis in my hands / carpal tunnel too so just the way my hands had to sit sometimes was problematic.

Yes some instruments make more sense in certain genres than others that's probably true, though true masters can play anything I think (I am not and probably never will be a master, hah)

I know the flute best, I just don't care for it so much. After that, maybe the Euphonium.

The only other instrument I'd like to learn at this point is the violin but I've tried in the past and failed, it's very hard on the wrists and again that's an arthritis / carpal tunnel problem.

@Nesi Ah, I see what you mean about the bassoon, I'm sorry that those conditions caused you trouble in your playing and I hope you can get back to playing it some day :)

Even though you're not a master it's interesting to talk to someone who can play so many of them and I thank you for the conversation so far

Could you possibly ever play some of your bass clarinet (or another instrument) on here some time? :)

@Bigpenguin I doubt I would record myself playing any of my instruments just out of self-consciousness, hah. On occasion I have in the past though.
@Nesi Oh I get it, I could understand what you mean about that. Also I love your 3d printed mouthpiece, that's such a great idea!
@Nesi oh yeah, one thing I've heard about the French horn is that it's apparently two horns combined into one? Could you explain how that works? I'm totally clueless 😂
@Bigpenguin It is only true of a double horn. The French horn is natively in F, but a double french horn has the tubing for both F and Bb, so you can use the thumb key (not available on a single horn) to switch the horn into the tuning of Bb. Your fingerings change in Bb for the same notes, but some notes play better on the Bb side than the F side (anything above Ab plays better on the Bb side for example)
@Nesi Oh okay, so you the player basically get to decide what note you think sounds better in which tuning? That's really interesting. When did you start playing the horn?
