Been wanting to post about this book, but keep forgetting. Anyways, here's my rec that you all should read Ahmed Sadaawi's Frankenstein in Baghdad.

It takes place in the middle of Baghdad bombings where a junk dealer stitches together random body parts, but a soul without a body takes it becoming an Iraqi made entirely out of Iraqis.

I especially like how it delves into folklore around St. George.

@bloodymar @bookstodon I have that in my queue to read. I should pick it up sooner rather than later.
@yddy @bookstodon Yes, I've read both versions and the translation is quite good. Its one of my favorites that I keep going back to.
@bloodymar @bookstodon oh wonderful! Thatโ€™s a good recommendation if Iโ€™ve ever heard one!
@bloodymar @bookstodon I read this book and was singularly impressed.
@RodgerPete34 @bookstodon Yes, I wanted to not like it because it won the Arabic Booker, but it became one of my favorites.

@bloodymar @bookstodon This is without a doubt in my top ten books of all time.
@bloodymar @bookstodon Agree! I read it this summer and found it really excellent -- smart and thought-provoking. So much going on in this novel.
