Mastodon Fails to Handle Titled Posts from Friendica
I'm new to Fediverse and especially, Friendica. I think Friendica is a solid platform for centering yourself socially in the Fediverse, both for the long fo...
@darren yes, that is another function where Mastodon unfortunately failed. Also, posts from Mobilizon and Peertube are only displayed as links in Mastodon. But if you leave the title field blank on Friendica, Mastodon shows the whole text (only without formatting).
However, you can also exploit this behavior. Since Mastodon doesn't know text formatting, lists and embedded images, I always set a heading for longer and formatted texts, so that Mastodon users can see the post as I created it.
@darren It would be more useful for me for Mastodon to strip the title and retain the body text, but I'm sure the Mastodon devs have a lot of features requests in inbox.
My almost certainly faulty Friendica installation only sees (for searches let alone shares) stuff in non-Friendica Fediverse if it has pictures, and even then only sees the pictures. I'm absolutely stumped as to what's wrong.
@darren I don't know enough about the #ActivityPub specification to know if #Friendica is outside the norm for having a title, or if #Mastodon is outside for failing to support it. Much like another commenter, I typically leave the title blank unless I am making a specific type of post. Perhaps someone who sees this can share more information about what the Activity Pub spec says.
