Beau of the Fifth Column has a superb case in point. You know how one of the things McCarthy has negotiated with his adversaries is that he's promising to dismantle the Office of Congressional Ethics? (Because, you know, Gaetz, Gosar et al.)

Well, the thing to keep eyes on is _how that tradeoff hasn't lost him any votes with the rest!_

It should have been a dealbreaker, but it isn't. That's how we know they're only making the appearance.

Replace "Republicans who don't want to bother with the pretense of governing," with, "Republicans who actively and vocally demand to burn the country down," vs. those that pretend they don't want to burn the country down.

But both have their eyes fixated on the $5 on the counter that they'll grab as they run out of the door through the flames.
