“Cultures and climates differ all over the world, but people are the same. They’ll gather in public if you give them a good place to do it.”
— Jan Gehl
@dmoser What a sad sight! Just think of the dozens of cars that could've been parked there instead! Or at least one dozen.

From street level (in the 60s), still from the opposite angle but you might recognise the fountain:

vehicles in Amagertorv, Copenhagen, 1960s

As well as the bus, a Ford Consul MkII, a Mercedes Ponton, VW Beetle and a Opel Kapitan P2.

@dmoser Amagertorvet, this has been one of my favourite squares since the first time I was there

Same here. Used to love getting in early on a Saturday morning and having a quiet coffee at the Café Norden

@pmcquail @dmoser yes and café Europe was also a favourite of mine there.

It was especially during sunny days when the square really came alive!

@pmcquail
Unfortunately, #CafeNorden has closed! :(

It was also my favourite place for coffee.

And the horrible thing is that there will be a handbag store!

@steveshd @dmoser

@dmoser Amazing !
I've never been in Copenhagen, but to me, this seems similar to the center of Wroclaw in Poland : a great place to be !
Nobody misses cars there !
@dmoser Great public spaces can be tiny, too. We put up a Little Free Library, reading bench and a tiny outdoor gallery that neighbours and passersby enjoy.
