Well. Took my farewell of the Other Place just now. Thanks, all, for welcoming me here.
@Paulatics I’ve stopped posting there a few weeks ago. I still check it, as I’m finding it still quicker for breaking news than here. But I’m weaning myself from the other site!
@Paulatics @KathyReid this is my experience too. I do still ‘like’ things when I’m there, but I’m there less and less. From multiple times a day to once every few days!
@Paulatics It's nice to have you here! :)
@Paulatics i will be doing that soon too. That place has become so grim. Great to have you here!
@Paulatics Welcome, Senator Simons! I’ve found it much more peaceful here so far.
@Paulatics congratulations! I’m still sitting on the fence but I’m only checking the bird app maybe only once a day now.
@chad There's like... three accounts there that post useful information and have not yet migrated (one went to friggin Telegram, duh), so yeah, once a day if that, from a new account with a random name, no follows, no followers.
@chad I left the archive intact. But I deleted my app and shortcuts. Next, my daughter is going to change my password and not tell me what it is! That should help my resist the temptation to peek. I just didn’t want to delete all that public record - nor allow someone to take my handle & impersonate me.

@Paulatics @chad I’ve kept my account active but deleted the app from my devices. I have to be intentional about going there now. The big change for me will be no more doom-scrolling on my phone 😌

Did the same with Facebook a couple of years ago, along with deleting 90% of my friends list and muting every single one that remained. I saw a marked improvement in my mental health.

@chad @Paulatics I’m still reading over there and have no plans to stop (at least until the smart people who post there do or until the algorithm makes it impossible to see the posts I want to read). But I’m not even tempted to post anything new over there.
@Paulatics Congratulations and welcome! Please convince your sister politicians and journalists to make the switch! I left a placeholder there after deleting all my posts, mainly to protect it from being taken over by bots. I also unfollowed almost everyone over there, to make it a lot less tempting to visit.
@Paulatics It's very cool you're here. This is the newer, in some ways older, but definitely better way :)
@Paulatics Same here — inspired by you saying you would leave, I pinned a goodbye message over there (which btw included a link to Mastodon without trouble, so I guess that policy changed yet again), and deleted the app from my devices. But I think there will be an adjustment period: already I know there’s valuable info there that I’m not seeing here… 😬
@andykm I know. I am going to find detoxing difficult. I will just cross my fingers that more “signal” will end up here, while the “noise” stays there.

@Paulatics

Glad to see officials making the jump! (Don't forget to update your official page to list Mastodon!)

And please push for govts to host their own instances (just like email). It's instant self-verification!

@pixelpusher220 On the to do list. When my staff come back from holidays.
@Paulatics I can't bring myself to delete my account over there, but I am now locked and inactive, though I keep an eye on my timeline to stay informed, since sadly most people and orgs are still there.
@Paulatics Congratulations! Happy to hear that you've made the jump. It was much easier for me as I didn't have a large number of followers or a huge investment in past tweets. I miss some of the people I followed on Twitter but I felt like a hypocrite doing anything that even tangentially supported what Elon has been doing. I hope more of the well known players from twitter will soon follow your lead. Thanks for being here.
@NeilFederspiel @Paulatics I add my thanks. Really glad you're here
@Paulatics I'm not quite gone from there yet. But this is a good place to post
@Paulatics Ah, but you were so much older then, you're younger than that now. Smart piece about turning the page on Twitter, a much-needed reset.
@rjmackinnon Thank you. I love your #Montreal posts here - and I’m glad we’ve reconnected..
