@maia what a coincidence, I'm 35 and i just got my first graphics tablet :3
@maia Yes this. It’s why I’m not keen on the ‘creator’ label. We’re all creators given the chance, creativity is not some mystical talent that only few can obtain

The biggest issue is we are comparing ourselves to a highly edited storefront on insta or fb and think "I will never be able to compete" not understanding that it isn't a competition.

Create for personal enjoyment, you don't need to monetise your hobbies. Not everything is about profit and hustle...

i want to see old men with full beards learning
ballet and i want to see terrible art from people

in their 30s who have only just got their first
tablet and i want to see mothers picking up their
old hobbies from before they were told it wasn’t
okay to have hobbies and i want to see people

in their early 20s figuring out how to be alive

by making bad music in their bedrooms and i
want zines to be handmade paper pamphlets

of devotion and i want creation to be fun again
instead of a competition where we all have to
monetise joy until we lose the invaluable currency
of unashamed love again

FWIW, I recorded a bad album and put it on Bandcamp for pretty much that reason.

@maia I want to be able to be sure that I'm buying handmade stuffs not just another overpriced items straight out of Chinese factory 🙀
@maia I want to see empty warehouses turned into rehearsal areas. Empty houses turned into squats. The dole. Tertiary education with no tuition fees and a grant for everyone. Some kind of UBI. Lottery money spent on cheap art made by poor people for poor people, not expensive art for rich people. Giant shark sculptures in the Grand Union. ( https://www.antepavilion.org/ )

@maia thanks for sharing this beautiful vision of the world
@maia I haven't "Made An Art{tm}" since the mid 90s, and was just wondering what that would be like if I tried it again. Going to take this as a sign.
@maia
I love this so much! For years I had the philosophy that I wanted to aim for doing art that was the most work for the smallest audience and see how that felt.... Pretty damn great!
@maia I subscribe to this desire lol
@maia add making websites to that! the jankier the better!
@maia I also think that artists who are successful should occasionally share the bad art they created while they were learning so beginners can see that you can improve.

Play without attachment? I'm on the lookout for it now. And the word that keeps coming to mind is 'delightful'.
