As far as spy/espionage tv shows go, #JackRyan is one of the dumbest. Every situation resolved with gunplay, never really much tradecraft.

#SlowHorses is not necessarily the pinnacle of the genre but it’s far superior to this tough guy BS. (Also funnier and just generally more entertaining).

Now I’m trying to think of what *is* the best show in the spy genre? I’m blanking a little. My first thought is “which ones are based on Le Carre novels?”—which is usually the bar for movies or tv shows. So maybe for tv the answer is The Night Manager? (I’ve never seen the 1979 adaptation of Tinker Tailor.)
Far from Le Carre but I did really love The Americans too. I binged that show while I lived in DC and I was convinced that every delivery van in my neighborhood was a spy.

@sctttnnnt Slow Horses was great. So was The Americans. Two of my favorite spy genre shows.

I'm only one episode into A Spy Among Friends which is alright so far.

@tylersaunders ooh I hadn’t heard of that one. Where are you watching it? Doesn’t look like it’s on any of my usual streaming services
@sctttnnnt it's on a British channel itv
