Boston-area wastewater levels are where they were in early Jan and rising fast. MA COVID hospitalizations are at highest since winter Omicron wave, with > 100 COVID deaths last week for the first time in a long time. Little public acknowledgment. We have become comfortably numb.

This is being driven by XBB.1.5, a variant that emerged in NY. Per our newly found concern about variants that is leading us to require negative tests for flights from China, will we do the same for flights from NYC? Since I’m sure the answer is no, the lack of logic is clear.

Many pointed out that these charts (from https://www.mwra.com/biobot/biobotdata.htm) omit Omicron peak so don’t put data in perspective. That figure (below) helpful for overall scale but hard to see slope. Also important to note that for only ~2 weeks of pandemic was MWRA wastewater higher than now
