This Vienna street isn’t “closed” because cars are removed. It’s fully opened to everything else because cars are removed.

Language matters.

@BrentToderian I would love to see more urban spaces like this in Australian cities and reduce the clog of cars on the roads in high density areas.
@BrentToderian This is what I want for Seattle, specifically the Pike/Pine area on Capitol Hill and the Pike Place Market, both on the model of the "superilles" of Barcelona.

Trying to push similar on Waters Avenue in Savannah, GA.

Finally got an "in" on the Municipal Planning Commission. Told my buddy that I'm a huge geek and city planning nerd... to prepare himself... because all he's ever gonna hear me talk about from here on out is bikes, buses, and Battlestar Galactica.

@BrentToderian Alt text, for those seeking it: a sunny city street scene. A street lined with shops, pedestrians filling the street. On the right, a pavement cafe. In the centre of the street, presumably where cars used to drive, is laid some artificial (?) grass, and people on deckchairs enjoying the sun.
@BrentToderian This doesn't look like an accessible street for bikes
@BrentToderian I am always interested in your posts, perhaps partly because I used to live in Vienna, and always loved the pedestrian focus of the first district. I never owned a car when I lived there, and never needed one.
@BrentToderian yep, language and words definitely matter, particularly how they ‘frame’ a discussion and influence how people perceive things
