Giving up on Mastodon for now. I'm old enough to have seen multiple social networks die, and Twitter has got a long way to go.

I gave it a solid try. But I see even the most hardcore "move!" proponents are still as active as ever on Twitter. It ain't happening, folks. At least not now.

@mikeev I took the rest of the year off from the Bird site, and miss it less and less every day. Yeah, I'm sure there are some cool discussions I'm missing, but I don't feel like I'm really missing out on major things.

@chrisheinonen @mikeev Honestly, my experience is the opposite. I still check the other site from time to time, but find far fewer opportunities to engage in any useful way with people still there now. It’s mostly announcements from projects and ad-posts from publications. The HPC tech journalists seem not to have followed their peers from other media in abandoning it. But it’s not a contest—it’s all communication!

For hpc.social the growth has definitely been here.
