Let me guess, I can read more about this in Imperial San Francisco

More from Heron's Head Park

First time going here during the day (i.e. not bike party)

Very nice and peaceful after the not very peaceful bike ride over, I need to find a better route. Should have used bike hopper

Then I went to the native plant store/farm?/??

Where I spontaneously ran into some friends (not shown)

Skipping forward a bunch but for some reason I decided biking through Fisherman's Wharf would be a good idea and honestly, pedestrianizing the whole place would be for the driver's own good. Only reason I'm not trapped there forever is I can dismount my vehicle and turn into a pedestrian

Skipping back a bunch I also stopped by crane cove, went by the art galleries on Minnesota but they were closed, but found a park, went down Minneslowta.

This area is extremely car oriented and recently industrial but the bike infrastructure is also pretty good; cars are slow. It reminds me a lot of the false creek area in Vancouver which similarly asked - what do you do with a formerly industrial area once it becomes more desirable? False Creek/Granville Island is managed more directly by the government though, mostly to its benefit, and has a lot of dedicated car free space (as well as e.g. space reserved for the arts, affordable housing...)
@sanae did you pass by the contraflow bike lane on... Illinois near 25th I think? I love that
@scott I think so! Don't quite remember though, almost all of this route was new
@sanae Embarcadero should be converted to be like Market, buses and bikes only
@sanae there are more people out and about in the tourist spots today than I’ve seen basically at any other point in 2022.
@ira naively I thought it would be quiet today
@sanae I really think it's stupid that they have all these garages and surface lots there that don't need to be accessed via Jefferson Street and they just detour all the bikes up north point instead... Especially with all the folks who like riding near the embarcadero!
@sanae Sad that Cyclicide is no longer. Safety Third!
@sanae Did you not take the Cargo Way protected bikeway?
@BruceHalperin I did, it was getting there that was not great
@sanae I usually do:
1. Embarcadero (or 2nd). Coming from the west you could do 8th-Townsend-2nd, mostly protected.
2. Bay Trail behind Oracle Park
3. Lefty O’Doul Bridge protected bikeway
4. Terry A. Francois protected bikeway
5. Illinois Street (not protected, sadly)
6. Cargo Way protected bikeway
@sanae one of my favorite parks in the city!!! my friend did some mapping for ecological restoration of the wetlands like a decade ago
