George it's a start but hey, 16 years won't do it!
He failed, but to plan and incite others to kidnap the sitting Governor should sit the rest of his life in prison!
@carlshuby @PerryM @georgetakei
It's infuriating.
@guitardis @PerryM @georgetakei
I was saying the same to my husband.
The weight of these crimes demands nothing less, and I am quite certain that had the accused and their co-conspirators not been part of TFG's base; had they been on the left, were we not sent to Gitmo, at the very least the charges and sentencing would have been significantly more harsh.
Agreed ๐ฏ.
@georgetakei
A 19.5 year sentence for being the ringleader of a plot to kidnap a sitting governor isn't enough. He should be in prison for decades. He could have been sentenced to life. 19.5 years? It's nothing for what he did. This isn't accountability. It's a slap on the wrist.
Remember, he was plotting not only to kidnap a sitting governor because of COVID restrictions, but he planned to use a weapon of mass destruction.
I am sure his sentence would be longer if he was Muslim or black.
Accountability is what is sorely needed, yet often neglected in recent years.
So, I am glad more are being held accountable for the seditious actions on and around Jan 6, as well as in the attempted kidnapping of Gov. Whitmer; however, the sentencing in these cases does not meet the seriousness of the crimes.
What has become of our judicial system?
IMHO, it is primarily Trump's base that are let off so easily for such serious offenses and conspiracies.
@georgetakei I agree about accountability, but it means nothing if we pick and choose who we hold accountable for their actions.
What the judiciary system has made abundantly clear is that who you are perceived to be matters much more than what what you've supposedly done. Until that gross corruption of justice is rectified it is foolish to genuinely expect any accountability at all.
