2/2 I would also add that Lincoln's stain on his presidency was allowing ex-Confederants to serve as Congress, Senators, Judges, and Officers. Even worse, was his selection of Andrew Johnson for VP. Johnson reversed many of Lincoln's policies, which set the groundwork for voter suppression, & black codes. This is why it is so important to know your American History #history #AmericanHistory #racism #whitesupremacy #Evangelicals #Christians #Black #AfricanAmerican #President #politics
@MinAdrianne John Adams or Andrew Johnson?
@Eumenes Johnson. Got John Adams on the brain! I was reading about some of his policies when I wrote this post. Great catch!
@MinAdrianne I was questioning myself for a minute there as well! šŸ˜†

@MinAdrianne prĆ©sidents don’t have power over who can serve in congress and Lincoln was assassinated just after the end of the war. He made no appointments to the cabinet or courts from among the traitors. Johnson was a terrible choice of VP—a political calculation for Lincoln re-election. The voting public was worried about restoring the Union. Emancipation and equality were in the back of the bus.

ā€œLincolnā€ represents the ideal president that even Lincoln couldn’t meet.

@Generalludd Although I don’t agree completely, you make some valid points.
