I started showing people my drawings online in 1997 (when I first got access to a scanner), and that, more than anything, got people to talk to me. When enough people talk to me on a consistent basis, I eventually become close with some of them.
(Weirdly, I met one of my closest friends on a dating site, but that's pretty unusual.)
