Anyone had any experience getting a back dated Energy bill cancelled as not being allowed by OFGEM rules. The #ofgem web site said bills backed more than a year are not allowed. Really not impressed with #bulb rebilling previously billed usage back dating over 2 years. Just wondered how good the ombudsman is on this?
@revk EON cancelled our backdated bill when challenged.
@adie bulb are refusing to. We left them in 2019, all billed and paid. Then now, out of the blue, rebilling loads (all more than a year old, obviously) and refusing to cancel it. Very annoying.
@revk @adie do you not have bills from the new provider to show them?
@interpipes @adie not relevant, they are rebilling what they already billed and paid years ago up to when I left. But the ofgem rules seem crystal clear on this, it is a back dated bill.
@revk @adie so theyโ€™re billing you for units already billed, or their old bills were not for accurate unit counts?

@revk @adie Info that may be relevant: 6 days ago I got an e-mail saying Blub's business is moving to Octopus.

That may explain any pandemonium and/or "meh".

Perhaps Octopus have a better attitude to old bills, rules, ombudsman and the like?

@revk we paid npower every month from when we started having supply from them a number of years ago. They didn't bill us for about 2 years and automatically sent me a cheque for the usage I'd paid for which was over 12 months ago.
@yescompsols @revk When I was with #Npower, they spontaneously stopped billing the direct debit for about a year and then, out of the blue, sent a "we're taking you to court for a year's worth of debt" letter. When I complained, they just said it was all my fault for not noticing that they hadn't been using the DD. Luckily the ombudsman upheld my complaint. (They had also sent no paper bills and had billed me on the wrong tariff, which they refused to fix since the tariff no longer existed)

@revk I had a similar experience with Bulb and I'll still not sure if they have fleeced me or not. I'm not sure how to check properly either. It's troubling me.

(I also have another issue where they supplied a faulty smart meter in April and still haven't replaced it, suggesting I buy one directly from the manufacturer)

@ryfish wow, not sure you are allowed to fit your own meters like that, crazy!

@revk Why they can't send it back to the manufacturer themselves is a mystery they can't be bothered to fix.

But now I'm more worried about the fact they might have backdated charges for the first two years I didn't have a working electricity meter at all!

@revk eon tried to back-bill us for 4 years in the noughties.

I argued we hadn't tried to hide usage, we'd been having meter readings taken and even if (as they claimed) they never got our move-in notification, they can still send bills addressed to the occupier and so the onus was on them to provide a timely bill. They grumbled a bit but caved, so we paid an extra year, spread over 4 (IIRC) years.

So they'll probably try it on but once you show you know the rules they'll accept it.
